Text: Titus3:1-14
Text: Titus3:1-14
Attempting to be a Godly Church is a virtuous endeavor. The effort is rewarded by an awareness of the will of God. Going after Gods will and being an agape filled vessel of Gods honor, puts a church in a position of executing God the Fathers will. In doing this, we please our Lord Jesus. To be set in the direction of what Father God is doing by Holy Spirit is so exhilarating. It requires a steadfast heart towards Jesus and having your ears tuned to His voice. Holy Spirit conveys those thoughts to us in a manner that will cause this direction to be found by us . Let us yearn to know Gods Ways that we may have an intimate knowledge of Him. A relationship solid, holy and pure. A thought of our church being filled of such people is in itself a beautiful vision. Unified in purpose and love, doing the will of God in the Kingdom of God. In all areas of our spiritual life, there needs to be a godly mindset and it needs to be manifested in our daily life. We need to approach all life’s simple times as well as the troubled times with this same mindset. A pure loving godly heart, having Gods Will as my occupation should serve as the catalyst to having a successful endeavor into a daily spiritual lifestyle. With this in mind and spirit, let’s read on in Titus to capture what the Apostle Paul is telling Titus, the Crete Church, and us In this era of time. Let us enjoy the rest of this timeless message as we read, digest, and apply Titus chapter 3 in our spiritual life.
Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men. But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned. When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey with haste, that they may lack nothing. And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.
A Godly Church Part2:
A Church in the Public Eye.
Oh yes, the public eye is watching. The public eyes are always monitoring and analyzing the disciples of Jesus. Are they real? Do they live what they teach and preach. Do they really think they have all the answers? Are they really happy? Where is the love they always talk about? How do they work with those people elected over them? This is what Apostle Paul is instructing Titus in Titus3:1 “Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,” Submissive and be ready to do good works and if its possible to live peaceable so we can keep moving and doing kingdom work. In following this train of thought lets examine this in todays language mixed with our discussion of being a Godly Church.
A Godly Church thinks, meditates on the words read in the Holy Bible, and then puts into practice of what they just read. Giving action to their faith that has been generated or strengthened by what was read and digested. Then, we by Holy Spirit’s help and prompting puts this faith to work by action. Yes, godly action that is Holy Spirit lead by Jesus own words and will for the church. Oh that this was not just thoughts, but strong godly action. Gods will truly, Should always be our aim. Pleasing our Lord Jesus by obediently doing His will in this Godly way.
So the verse we are now going to contrast with this thought of being a Godly Church, Titus 3:1-2 “Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.” How do you take these two verses and put them into Godly action in todays media and political climate that would be accepted by todays church?
First I believe we must set the standard by which we measure the godly validity of our thinking and start of a decision to always be the Holy Word of God as written for us in the Holy Bible. After prayer and meditation on the word of God, we then insert the question or idea for contrast. After much meditation, the resultant should be our primary consideration in expressing it in written or oral form. We must express ourselves in a godly way with the Holy Spirit derived resultant of thought and meditation.
Secondly, we must not spew our carnal thoughts and opinions, especially the ungodly ones, to the watching evaluating public. We are after all ambassadors of the King Jesus and the Kingdom of God. Our Opinions should always be of a godly nature. We should always keep that in mind before speaking about people that are rulers and authorities, that we are told to obey. Remember the church standard is godliness according to scripture and not these ungodly ideas and thoughts no matter how logical or popular they may be. Holy, Godly and truthful words and ideas should prevail.
In following Gods way, the Church should have Gods favor in praying for and counseling these rulers and magistrates and perhaps influencing godly action and solution to the problems associated with ruling and leading people. A Godly Church can be a Positive influence instead of an enemy of the ruler and leaders. Think of the Prophet Daniel when Israel was in Babylonian captivity. Daniel influenced many ungodly Kings when God gave Daniel favor to be seen and heard. He was godly in an ungodly administration and was used mightily to deliver Gods words and influenced the leadership of these kings and governments.
Let’s look into the rest of our text at how we appear to the Public. Titus 3:3 “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.” showing all humility to all men.” May Holy Spirit keep us in remembrance of what we once did but transformed us by Gods holy love and light. Let us press on in God light in remembrance of our Godly transformation in Christ Jesus. Thanks be to Jesus for humility, keeping us living in it, contributing to his gifting us with His meekness in a transformed life.
Daily Lives Exhibiting Christian Behavior and Character
As we have spoken before, All these questions are inquiring of our honesty and purity of heart. Are we what we are teaching and preaching. In our lifestyle, are we an open loving person with compassion. May God grant that we would be a good producer of spiritual fruit, approved and inspected by Holy Spirit. Of course, we should be always living this holy life whether the public eye is upon us or not. Our Gods eye is upon His children whether we do good or not. We would hope we are heavenly minded as well as earthly aware of all going on in our living sphere of influence. We should remember to speak wisely of earthly and heavenly subjects. Showing respect to those who rule over us, as well as not arguing over meaningless things, we show we can be trusted servants with Gods good name, exercising Gods kindness and love in all godliness to a watching public.
