REVELATION - The Throne of God part 1
Share from worship time
Spiritual worship is one of the greatest needs
Emphasis on word, serving and our witness
Can we say enough about worship
SLIDE 1 “THE LORD ESTABLISHED HIS THRONE”
worship means - to ascribe worth
It means to use all that we have
heaven is a place of worship - God’s people will worship Him throughout eternity
SLIDE 2
Revelation 4:1 (NASB95)
1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.”
Chapters 1-3 written to the 7 churches
Laodicea - 3:20 Jesus standing at the door, anyone who hears His voice He will come and dine
John before writing to churches heard loud voice like trumpet
Trumpet will call the church home
“The things you see, the things that are and the things to come” 1:19
The setting here seems to be “church called home”
These next verses will reveal this setting
SLIDE 3
Revelation 4:2–3 (NASB95)
2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.
3 And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.
“Immediately in the Spirit and behold” verse 2 (caught up)
As we read on - this is about the throne (throne room)
Many verses throughout the bible - God on His throne
We will see Jesus on His throne in chapter 5
The magnitude of God upon His throne
Isaiah chapter 66 gives us a overall picture the magnitude
SLIDE 4
Isaiah 66:1 (NASB95)
1 Thus says the Lord,
“Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool.
Where then is a house you could build for Me?
And where is a place that I may rest?
Everything exist, happens, the rule, the sovereignty, the habitation in and of heaven happens or emits from His throne
The throne is His seat of judgement (not always what we think / harsh or angry)
SLIDE 5
Psalm 89:14 (NASB95)
14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Lovingkindness and truth go before You.
The sovereignty of God happens here (from the beginning / our life now)
We see how you and I can trust in this sovereignty of God in this Psalm
“Things haven’t always worked out the way I wanted” “I don’t see how God will help me get through this”
We really have just one assignment - “love God”
SLIDE 6
Romans 8:28 (NASB95)
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
SLIDE 7
Romans 12:19 (NASB95)
19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
SLIDE 8
Proverbs 20:22 (NASB95)
22 Do not say, “I will repay evil”;
Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.
SLIDE 9
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NASB95)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
We will already be judged but judgement will come upon the earth - hereafter
We will definitely see the more powerful signs of God’s wrath and judgement as go on through Revelation
As we see in Rev chapter 4 verse 3 and next verses to come “God is very rich”
SLIDE 10
Revelation 4:3 (NASB95)
3 And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.
The jasper here represents God’s purity (sometimes red sometimes green -clarity of this gem important)
The sardius represents God’s judgement (redness representing judgement - and wrath)
emerald represents God’s mercy and grace (green in color)
The Lord really wants us to grasp the magnitude of His throne and His sovereignty and how we can trust in that
We know He does all things in His Spirit and He is over all spirits all the host of heaven.....where His throne is
Look at this next verse and then I’m going to share a story about God ruling from His throne
The Lord wants us to understand this for our lives
SLIDE 11
John 4:23–24 (NASB95)
23 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
SLIDE 12 “THE LORD ESTABLISHED ON HIS THRONE”
This story comes out of 1 Kings 22 in the time of King Ahab and King Jehosaphat
