This week we are going to look at Psalms of Trust.
And a proverb explains what biblical trust is better than anything.
Proverbs 3:5
There are not many Psalms that are classified as Psalms of Trust, just 6: 11, 16, 23, 62,63, and 91.
Tonight I want to look at maybe the most famous trust Psalm and that is Psalm 23.
Of all the titles we call God a Shepherd is a fitting term.
Jesus is described as the good shepherd in John 10.
In John 10:11
He is the greatest of all shepherds… Tonight I want you to see 7 things from this Psalm and the first is this..
The Lord loves his sheep....
The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.
This love is best seen in the gospel of John.
I read one verse but I want to read the full context.
Provides for his sheep.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
In Isaiah he says…
He uniquely cares for each and every one of his own…
How does he provide for his sheep?
He restores his sheep
Examples from scripture.
Restoration through the word.
restore=turned back
isa 1:18
Restore=made new
Restore=grow
2 tim 3:16-17
how does the Lord restore his sheep?
He leads his sheep
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
God NEVER LEADS you down the path of unrighteousness..
ps 119:105
What a perfect picture of him leading us.
We should want to obey the one who loves, provides, and restores.
This is how we should be…
He leads down righteous paths because he is righteous.
The Purpose of Guidance
HE leads us down paths of righteousness for his name sake.
So He can be made known.
What is the ultimate purpose of God’s guidance?
Romans 8:29
He never leaves his sheep
psalm 23:4
What are some things we know.
We will have valleys
All people Die
The promise of the Shepherd before he leaves..
How does God lead his sheep through dark valleys?
He Protects his sheep
We will always have enemies
A Challenge as an under-shepherd.
A promise to his
Philippians 4:19 (ESV)
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
He is the bread of life
A word from him.
Growth provides protection
God prepares the table.
Anointed by the spirit.
An overflowing Cup because of Christ…
Why do God’s sheep have enemies?
He leads his sheep safely home
The Shepard provides Full assurance
A house for us…
Why we get to dwell.
