Living by Faith – Living a God-Pleasing, World-Changing Life
Romans 1:17 (NASB95)
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.”
(Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38)
Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
1 John 5:4 (NKJV)
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
Romans 4:17 (NKJV)
(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
Hebrews 11:3 (NLT)
By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
God operates His Kingdom BY FAITH…that’s why we are called to LIVE BY FAITH…to WALK BY FAITH, not by SIGHT
But God’s FAITH isn’t a human/natural faith…God’s faith is SUPERNATURAL
PART 1: SUPERNATURAL FAITH CREATES SUPERNATURAL REALITIES
Romans 10:17 (NASB95)
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Romans 12:3 (NLT)
Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
2 Peter 1:1–4 (NKJV)
Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Galatians 2:16,20 TPT
…we know that no one receives God’s perfect righteousness as a reward for keeping the law, but only by the faith of Jesus, the Messiah! His faithfulness has saved us, and we have received God’s perfect righteousness... My old identity has been co-crucified with Christ and no longer lives. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me—we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, dispensing his life into mine!
TRUTH
TRUTH
There’s a human, natural faith that believes only what it can see, taste, smell, touch, or feel…but there’s a SUPERNATURAL Faith that we have all received that does not base its reality in what can be seen, touched or felt. SUPERNATURAL FAITH…GOD’S FAITH…finds it’s substance and evidence in the unseen…
Faith of Thomas vs Faith of the Centurion
John 20:24–29 (NLT)
One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”
Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”
“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.
Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
Thomas was operating in a natural type of faith. Other translations say “Don’t be unbelieving, but stop doubting and believe.” He needed to see in the physical realm before he believed. Jesus didn’t condemn him, but He did say that there’s a greater blessing for those who believe the truth without needing to see the physical evidence.
Matthew 8:5–10 (NLT)
When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.”
Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.”
But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!
Matthew 8:13 (NLT)
Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour.
The centurion had the type of faith that Jesus was looking for, and He hadn’t seen in all of Israel up to that point. What was the basis of the faith? The Centurion put more authority in the word of Jesus than in the physical evidence. He understood God’s type of supernatural faith.
SUPERNATURAL FAITH WORKS WHEN WE WORK SUPERNATURAL FAITH
Romans 3:27 (NASB95)
Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
APPLICATION
APPLICATION
Faith works, because it’s based in a God-ordained spiritual law, or principle.
Salvation: When did God save you? Was it when you prayed or when He died?
· Faith works through principle, or law, not based on ongoing judgment or decisions from God. (It is finished…He is seated)
o 2 Peter 1:3-4 – Have been given all things that pertain to life and have already been given great and precious promises
o Eph 1:3 – Have been blessed with every Spiritual blessing
o 1 Pet 2:24 – By His stripes we WERE healed
When God created the heavens and the earth, he set forth natural and spiritual laws, or principles. They function and work based upon how God designed them to work.
Natural laws, or principles that work all the time: Gravity, Laws of Motion, Laws of Thermodynamics, Laws of Electricity, and so on
Electricity (Ohms law, faradays law, Watts law, Kirchoffs law, etc)
Mark 5:25–34 (NKJV)
Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
This woman demonstrated how the supernatural law of faith works.
1) Know (understand God’s promises and provision from Scripture)
2) Believe (believe, without doubt, that the promises are for you)
3) Speak (in agreement with God’s promises)
4) Act (you can act according to belief, or according to unbelief)
Mark 11:22-24 TPT
22 Jesus replied, “Let the faith of God be in you! 23 Listen to the truth I speak to you: Whoever says to this mountain with great faith and does not doubt, ‘Mountain, be lifted up and thrown into the midst of the sea,’ and believes that what he says will happen, it will be done. 24 This is the reason I urge you to boldly believe for whatever you ask for in prayer—be convinced that you have received it and it will be yours.
Matthew 21:22 (NASB95)
“And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Matthew 21:22 (NLT)
You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”
2 Corinthians 1:17-20 AMP
So then, was I indecisive or capricious when I was [originally] planning this? Or the things I plan, do I plan in a self-serving way like a worldly man, ready to say, “Yes, yes” and “No, no” [at the same time]? 18 But [as surely as] God is faithful and means what He says, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No” [at the same time]. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, by me, Silvanus, and Timothy, was not “Yes” and “No,” but has proved to be “Yes” in Him [true and faithful, the divine “Yes” affirming God’s promises]. For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God.
Hebrews 11:1, 6 NASB
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen….And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
