Intro and Tension

Revelation 5:11–14 ESV
Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
Series | Re-Aligning | 4 Weeks | Today, Worthy of our Worship and Praise - 2 Different things;
need to realise: We make decisions to worship every Day.
What is Worship? Worship is a declaration of worthiness.
When choose to worship something, someone - What we are doing is DECLARING that it’s WROTHY of my attention, affection, time and commitment.
The opposite is true - When we forgo to worship something, we are declaring, it’s not worthy.
Today, I want to talk to you about the POWER of Worship and Praise
Title: He is worthy of our Worship and Praise
My Hope: You will see that Worship and Praise is not just what we do, it’s who we are, and it has power in it. Power to break strongholds.
**Prayer**

Truth

Steven Gerrard > Loved him > Played for Liverpool, was a legend > If you meet some football fans, they are FENATIC about certain players - burn jersies if they leave - People Worship sports stars
Worship - Anything we commit attention, affection and time to.
Listen, worship is not something that we do, it’s who we are > We were created to WORSHIP our God, but not just in noise and music.
1 Chronicles 16:23–24 ESV
Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!
Question; Is God WORTHY of your life?
Everytime we make a decision to praise him, read bible, come to church, you are ascribing worth to Him - and when we don’t, we say that HE (GOD) and HIS WAYS are not WORTH IT. Bowling but cant raise hands. Not condem challeng
Now - That’s heavy, but it’s not for condemnation, it’s for transformation. God never gives us a bad deal.
What I want to do > is go through 2 VERSES, not stories, VERSES, 2 of my favourite on worship. What I want is to try and understand that worship is not what we do, its who we are - It’s not just singing, it’s how we are meant to LIVE as believers.
Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans - Background - Church community arguing about doctorine, how to practice it - Written to unite the church (geez don’t we need this) - 11 Chapters, starts with how sinful we are but then in it says “God in his GRACE, offers us JUSTIFICATION through His Son Jesus Christ” - Unpacks the gospel. Then Chapter 12 says…because of all of that…this is how you transform.
Point; Transformation should be our motivation to worship
Let’s unpack this; [back on screen]
I Apeal to you = URGING | Mercies of God = interesting it’s here - Why? (Reads well without it).
Why mercy is important? If we don’t understand the mercies of God, we’d be prone to sacrifice in order to obtain mercy.
We live by Mercy, and not by Merit.
Remember the adulturous woman > Pharisees brought her > wanting to Stone > Jesus says let him who is without sin throw the first stone - No on threw stone , This woman, in her mess looks up and Jesus says
John 8:10–11 ESV
Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
John 8:12 ESV
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
The light of Life: Let His GRACE, a free gift, draw you in, He gave us MERCY, we live because he decided to show us MERCY, then let his TRUTH, TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE. All about transformation. Grace bought people to Jesus but they didn’t stay that way.
Paul then goes on; Present bodies living sacrifice - Holy and acceptable to God, which is your SPIRITUAL WORSHIP.
This is the point - God wants all of us. Worship should effect every part of my life - Everything you do, is worship to HIM. [examples]
There was this story, boy and his dad was fishing on this river, young boy, 4 years old, fell in, and the current swept him away, faster than his dad could dive in. Another man saw him up the river, dived in saved the boy, and the dad as you could imagine said, I will give you ANYTHING, what do you want? and the man said “I Want you to work for me” - You are that baby. Helpless, and yet saved OR Theif on CROSS Story.
Point 2; God is asking for everything, because he gave everything
We need to declare worth on God, is He Worthy? Jesus is the one that LAID DOWN HIS LIFE so we could live, and we can’t even come to church? We got something else on?
When Jesus went to the cross, he didn’t have any thing else on..that was it.
He is Worthy. K o K, L o L
Paul then gives us a warning, which is more prominant now than ever before.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Urges us to : Resist being Conformed, how? Renew our Mind daily > Actively. In His Word, In Prayer, In Fellowship, Breaking of Bread. Why? His Truth leads to LIFE.
Paul knew = Patterns of this world would oppose the way we are called to live.
The world says to persue happines, but we’ve even strayed so far from persuing happiness to persuing pleasures.
Worshipping him means committing to HIM and transforming.
God wants to RENEW US - This is good news
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
God is the change agent - transformation begins with our minds, he wants to change us from the inside out - A lot of the worldly problems we face is from inner problems we ignore.
Transformation should be our motivation to worship
We Worship him with our life, and He renews us - What a deal.
What is it to worship him? Make Him the priority.
What happens, when our Worship turns outward - it turns into Praise.
Point 3: There is POWER in your PRAISE.
Right now - World is getting darker, Changing before our eyes > What are we to do? Well, we can do what King Jehosaphat did - It says in;
2 Chronicles 20:2 ESV
Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, “A great multitude is coming against you from Edom, from beyond the sea; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, Engedi).
People where coming from everywhere - He was in a Crisis - Didn’t know what to do.
It says he was afraid - Had a problem he didn’t know how to fix, What did he do? He turned his eyes to seek the Lord. He got everyone together - This is what we do on sunday. Every nation came.
What happened then, it says that
2 Chronicles 20:13 ESV
Meanwhile all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
Everyone got on board, women, men, children, looking to the Lord because they didn’t know what to do.
What did they do? Prayed - Tells us in Verse 5 - They prayed about WHO GOD was and then about HIS POWER - There was no competition for God - and there is NO Competition now
Then what happened - They finished praying;
2 Chronicles 20:18–19 ESV
Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the Lord, worshiping the Lord. And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
Fell down into worship and praise -Praise Praise Praise - Praise made all the difference.
Issue > Prayer > Prayer about who god is > Prayer lead to what God can do > Heard from God > Praising
Praise is worship gone public.
Psalm 34:3 ESV
Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!
magnifty - Can’t make God bigger - Shows you in a bigger way what’s really there.
Ger your praise on even when your problems are not solved.
When you praise - You shift the problem to God.
Why do you praise if problem not solved?
Praise is Declaring that God has the power to change you or your situation
Psalm 50:23 ESV
The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”
Every time issue in bible - Got Praise ON | Joshua walking around walls - A big Problem, Wouldn’t Fall - Got their Praise on
Paul and Silas in Jail - Praising - Things started to SHAKE, RUMBLE.
Praise is not praise until it’s Expressed.
Psalm 34:4 ESV
I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Tell your fears there is somewhere else to look - We lift our eyes we look toward the Lord.
We offer everything as worship, because He gave us everything
We praise him in our Fears, We praise him in our Mountaintops…Praise him in our Valleys, When He is Moving, When He Isn’t Moving, We EXALT HIM > Because HE is WORTHY.
**Prayer**
We gona do some praising - I want you to BRING IT.
Job 36:29 ESV
Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion?
Job compares the clouds accumulating to the noise that happens in the tabanacle, the shouts of PRAISE - Goes on to say how clouds are formed.
Sun beams down, Hits the water, Vapors goes up, and forms clouds .
If you want to know what Praise is about you have to understand Rain.
Zechariah 14:17 ESV
And if any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, there will be no rain on them.
No worship - No Rain, Little Worship - Little Rain - What is Rain? Rain is revival, Rain is miracles, Rain is God moving - We need this.
What happens is when we worship, we send invisible vapours up - They are like incense to God - Incense arise

Psalm 95:1–6 ESV
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
