What happens when we don’t obey God?
Point 1
When God gives us clear directions, and we refuse to listen we can run into trouble.
When we don’t listen to God, or we try to be selective when we hear, things can get bad for us.
Saul had beaten many of Israel's enemies, and he first gave God all the glory, but eventually, he made it all about how great he was.
He didn't make it about God.
God told him to destroy the nation.
He did not tell him to rob the nation, he didn't tell him to take the best things for himself, He said to destroy it all because it was all corrupted.
Point 2 - When we disobey God, it must be met with repentance and renewal.
Point 3
When we disobey God, we must turn to be fully obedient.
Saul didn’t take full responsibility.
To him, he fully obeyed what God wanted.
He did not see a problem with plundering their enemies.
But after this, Israel lost all battles until the entire camp repented.
Samuel was full of remorse for ever making Saul king, but why? God told him to, it should not fall on him.
But because of Saul’s disobedience, more than just Saul was feeling the effects of sin.
Jesus was swift when it came to dealing with Sin.
Yes, Jesus hung out with sinners, and yes he always rebuked the religious, the righteous who thought they did not need him.
But Jesus dealt swiftly with sin.
REPENTANCE Change of mind; also can refer to regret or remorse accompanying a realization that wrong has been done or to any shift or reversal of thought.
In its biblical sense repentance refers to a deeply seated and thorough turning from self to God.
It occurs when a radical turning to God takes place, an experience in which God is recognized as the most important fact of one’s existence.
Clark Palmer, “Repentance,” ed.
Chad Brand et al., Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2003), 1375–1376.
Jesus said it like this.
Man is born with his back toward God.
When he truly repents, he turns right around and faces God.
Repentance is a change of mind….
Repentance is the tear in the eye of faith.
Dwight L. Moody
