A. When the writer is saying to leave the elementary teachings. He is saying that you remember them, hold them dear, but move deeper. It’s like going to Middle School, you build on what you learned in elementary school.

II. Learning As You Press On vs. 1b-2
A. As you grow you shouldn’t have to define basic terms again, and again, such as repentance. Repentance is so interwoven into the very fabric of the Christian life, that we should know when and how to repent.
B. Dead works=trying to save yourself and/or earn the favor of God. As you grow, you stop the dead works. Your faith in Jesus and His finished work is growing.
C. The things that Judaism argued over, the writer is saying that we should move past them. Today we argue over denomination, modes of baptism etc.
III. Leaning on the Holy Spirit vs. 3
A. However, we must realize that all this growth is dependent on the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 ““But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
B. If the Lord permits you will grow, but it is almost always growing through various trials. It’s a roller coaster not just a steep incline.
C. It’s never because of us, it is because of God. We are responsible for reacting well.
