What areas of my life are worth imitating? Integrity, Love, Obedience, Faithful stewardship
What attitudes are others learning from me?
How much of the grace of God can be seen in my life?
If I were put on trial today for being a Christian, would it be an open and shut case.
Numbers 14:22–25 (ESV)
none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice,
shall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it.
BUT my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it.
Now, since the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valleys, turn tomorrow and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”
My servant - He was subject to the will and command of his master. But one might willingly and lovingly submit to his master (Exod. 21:5), remaining in his service when he was not obliged to do so.
You can tell if a man has a servants heart if he doesn’t get offended when he’s treated like a servant.
Obedience counts most when you don't want to do it.
A different spirit -
“another of the same sort”
Resolute
Followed me fully - When the Lord said, whom shall I send? Isaiah said send me.
Joshua 14:6–15 (ESV)
Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart (My conviction).
But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God.
And Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’
And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.
I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming.
So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”
Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.
Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.
Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba. (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim.) And the land had rest from war.
Observations
Caleb fully followed - He’s a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Forty to Eighty Five means Caleb waited 45 years for His promise.
Caleb was as strong at eighty five as at 40.
Caleb asked for the Hill he was promised.
There are giants in the land.
What Hill has He commanded you to take?
Caleb took the hill and the land had rest from war.
The unbeliever is sanctified by the believers faith.
God blessed Potiphars house for Joseph’s sake.
People will look back and say thank you Lord.
