Humbled Faith
Humbled Faith
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
I. God is the Grace & Gift Giver
I. God is the Grace & Gift Giver
A. Paul recognizes this in his own life Vs 3
B. Paul has a right perspective of himself
II. What Determines our Gifts (Faith)
II. What Determines our Gifts (Faith)
A. What is Faith? Blind Hope?
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
There is evidence for our Faith
It is a gift from God
It is both received and exercised
Faith is trust, the attitude of receptivity. There are in it a consciousness of need, a yearning desire and a confidence of expectation. It is the open empty hand held up with the assurance that it will be filled; it is the empty pitcher let down into the well with the assurance that it will be drawn up filled.
Faiths’ opposite is Self-Dependence which isolates us from God in other words pride.
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
2 For all those things hath mine hand made, And all those things have been, saith the Lord: But to this man will I look, Even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, And trembleth at my word.
18 Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Humbly we recognize that all we have is from God according to the faith we are given and the faith we exercise
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
