Q: What is the greatest thing that anyone has ever done for you?
Q: What is the most heroic thing you have ever heard someone doing for another person?
Remember when the world trade centers were hit.
Many people, first responders, firefighters, medical personnel ran right to the scene to help.
Put out fires, provide food, provide medical help.
We call them heros
Because they put someone elses life and needs ahead of theirs.
Their own safety was secondary.
Today’s topic we are discussing Evangelism
What is evangelism?
The spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness.
What was the profession of the men Jesus called in the verse?
What does this verse mean?
One of the most powerful tools in evangelism or being a fisher of men is your own personal testimony.
Lets looks how someone in the Bible did this.
Here we see Paul before crowd.
He started to evangelize
Starts telling them his own personal journey meeting Christ.
Lays out where he was before
Then how he changed after
You have your own story of how you met Jesus
Its not any less impressive than Paul’s
Paul was literally made blind by Jesus
To show his spiritual blindness.
The natural person cannot understand the things of God.
If they cannot then why should we evangelize, but
We spoke about -
greatest thing ever done for you
heroism
What can be greater than getting the gift of eternal life?
Becoming wealthy, finding and marrying the person of your dreams
Does not compare to getting salvation
Q: Can we agree on that?
If we do then we should share the greatest gift that we have been given.
But it does cost something
Why do we shy away from Evangelism?
When we tell others about Jesus, like Paul was doing.
Is it our words and excellent presentation skills that saves someone?
No
What did Jesus Say?
Jesus is talking about getting people to pick crops.
Q: What does this mean?
Well see in the next verse
How is evangelizing like scattering seeds?
Does the farmer worry about throwing seeds into places that it might not grow?
Then why do we worry about spreading the gospel?
Does the farmer have to know how it grows?
Q: Why is it important that we evangelize?
Is the Gospel like hidden treasure?
It is unlike any treasure in the world.
We can enjoy it to the fullest but we can also share it with others and it doesnt take away from how much access or joy we are still able to experience.
Do not allow this treasure to be hidden, do not be ashamed to the Gospel.
