We Are Sharing Christ's Love
2 Corinthians 5:14-21
INTRODUCTION
1865- Williams Booth- Methodist minister- left pulpit to go work with the poor.
They were not allowed in the existing churches so he started his own.
3 S’s- Soup, Soap, Salvation
Volunteer Army became Salvation Army
Today one of the great benevolence societies in the world- but not much of a church exists.
1890’s “In His Steps”- by Charles Sheldon- Social Gospel Movement
WWJD
Proclamation and Demonstration- Can’t be separated.
James 2- dead faith=say it and don’t help
Our Unity leads to us being The Body of Christ.
We must love like Jesus loved.
Mark 10:45 ESV
45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Guided by God’s Word, Del Norte Baptist Church is a united community of believers worshiping together, growing in Christ, and sharing Christ’s love.
2 Corinthians 5:14–21 ESV
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

3 Reasons We Share Christ's Love

1- Christ's Love Controls Us (14-15)

2 Corinthians 5:14–15 ESV
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
Christ’s love controls us
This is true of all believers.
1 John 4:7–8 ESV
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Jesus died so we can live. We live so we can die.
Galatians 2:20 ESV
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Surrender= Jesus gets his way in our life.
We live differently.

2- Christ's Sight Controls Us (16-17)

2 Corinthians 5:16–17 ESV
16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
The Gospel is not “you do” it is “Jesus did”
“according to the flesh”= we don’t see people by the earthly abilities or disabilities.
We see them spiritually. - not physically.
Are they someone who is going to heaven or hell?
We become a new creation. We see new.
We get a new perspective.
We must see our community as Jesus sees it.
If we truly see others as Jesus did, how do we live differently?
Jesus died for them.
Jesus wept for the lostness- sheep without a shepherd.
How do we know if someone is saved?
Have they been changed?
Fruit.

3- Christ's Mission Controls Us (18-20)

2 Corinthians 5:18–20 ESV
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
2 Parts of Reconciliation
Our Reconciliation with God
Through Christ- because Christ paid for what separated us from God.
“not counting their trespasses...”= imputation.
Banking term.
Jesus paid a debt we could not pay.
Through Christ- reconciled the world.
John 3:16 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Christ died for all.
How God provided reconciliation (vs 21)
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Christ put the weight of sin on his shoulders for us.

3 Titles Paul Gives Believers

A- Ministers of Reconciliation (18-19)

Given Ministry of Reconciliation (18)
2 Corinthians 5:18 ESV
18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
helping people restore their relationship with God.
2 Corinthians 5:19 ESV
19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
19 "counting"= imputation= banking term. It is not a debt any longer. Balance sheet says zero.
"wages of sin is death" but gift of God is...
Given Message of Reconciliation (19)
2 Corinthians 5:19 ESV
19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
The Gospel

B- Ambassadors for Christ (20)

2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
ILL- Walmart- have to have an office in NW Arkansas- you come to them.
ILL- Rome- Ambassador: High official representing a king.
Rome didn’t send Ambassadors, they received ambassadors.
Rome sent armies and governors.
They received ambassadors who came to surrender.
We are ambassadors in chains.
God making his appeal through us.
It is the only way man will hear the good news.
He couldn't have found a different way. But he chose to use us.

C- Righteousness of God (21)

2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Righteousness is an act.
We are the righteous acts.
Because we have been saved.
Because we have been changed.
It should be seen by those around us every day.
We are different because he changed us.
CONCLUSION

Have you been reconciled to God?

Are you helping others to be reconciled with God?
