Christian Canaan
Every Christian has a Canaan but not every Christian lives in a Canaan.
You either live in Canaan or in carnality. (Reference: Romans 8)
There are 3 types of people: (Reference: 1 Corinthians 3:1-4)
Natural man - not saved, no Holy Spirit. Carnal man - saved, has the Holy Spirit lives in flesh. Spiritual man - saved, has the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit has him.
1. Holy Spirit is a PROMISE from the Father
Israel had promise of land, we have the promise of Spirit.
Israel was promised possessions, we are promised power.
And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; Acts 1:4
2. Holy Spirit is a PETITION of Jesus.
Israel had to fight for the promise, Jesus had to petition for the promise.
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— John 14:16
“Helper” is parakletos, para (very close) and kaleo (to call).
“Another” is allos “one besides, another of the same kind”.
Jesus’ prayer was that we know the Holy Spirit the way disciples knew Jesus!
3. Holy Spirit is a PURPOSE of salvation
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38
Salvation brings the PERSON before it takes us to a PLACE.
Salvation is about ENTERING not ESCAPING.
Unless you are born again you can’t see kingdom John 3:3
Unless you are born of water/Spirit you can’t enter the kingdom John 3:5
For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:9
The Difference Between “Indwelling” vs “Infilling”
And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:22
And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability Acts 2:4
The indwelling occurs one time, infilling is a repeated experience. The indwelling follows salvation, infilling follows surrender. The indwelling is about possession, infilling is about power.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18
The Greek word for filled is pleroo. It means “to fill and disperse throughout one’s soul.”
Even more important is the tense of this verb: passive, imperative, present.
The passive voice implies that “you” (the subject) are to be acted upon. The imperative voice makes it a command, not a suggestion. The present tense aspect implies continuous action.
