HOW TO HEAR GOD
And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets. 1 Samuel 28:6
And Saul answered, “I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. 1 Samuel 28:15
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. 1 Chronicles 10:13
Hearing God’s voice is the determining factor between entering your destiny or exiting your destiny. What is happening to you right now is not as important as what’s happening in you.
1. When you are desperate for a word of God at the expense of the devotion to the Lord of the Word you will lack discernment and can fall into deception.
God will communicate in the community! 1 Samuel 28:6 Dreams, Urim, Prophets (community of Saul) / /1 Samuel 30:7-8 Priest, Ephod
Community might not be the problem, your connection is! Your character is the issue!
Saul went outside of his community to get a connection to spiritual realm.
Saul didn’t go to the witch to get in touch with God but with Samuel.
You can get a word but not a solution!
False prophets:
1. Spirit of divination
2. Gift of prophecy but heart from hell (Matthew 7:15 “dress as sheep” / Matthew 7:16 fruit of life style, character, and teaching, influence towards God or themselves. Greedy for gain. 2 Peter 2:15; Jude 11
3. Self proclaimed prophets. Gift of prophecy doesn’t make a prophet.
2. Relationship with the Holy Spirit is more important than revelation from the Holy Spirit.
David was rejected by Philistines (1 Sam.29:10), Saul was rejected by God (1 Sam.15:23)
Saul was afraid, his heart trembled greatly 1 Samuel 28:5, David was greatly distressed 1 Samuel 20:6
David strengthened himself in the Lord his God 1 Samuel 30:6 and there was no strength in him 1 Samuel 28:20
Holy Spirit will guide you if you let him be your comforter when all comforts fail.
Until you renew your strength you can’t receive from the Spirit.
God wants to be the source of your strength before we use him as resource for our solution
Go to God to be filled before you go to Him to be led.
Strength in your source.
The key to hear the voice of the Lord is to be strengthened by the Lord.
Get near God if you want to hear God!
My sheep hear my voice
3. When we are filled with Gods’ word we will become familiar with God’s voice.
When we keep God’s word we will become keen to His voice.
“God said” has to be under “it is written”
Genesis 3:3 “God has said”
Matthew 4:4, 7, 10 “It is written”
If you can’t get a word from God, get into the Word of God!
4. You can’t hear God’s voice today if you didn’t heed His voice yesterday!
“Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD nor execute His fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day.” 1 Samuel 28:18
When you stop heeding God’s voice, it’s a matter of time and you will stop hearing God’s voice.
God’s word will not work in your life if it had no place in your heart.
