Let’s all get on one accord and Stop what you doing and hear the “Word of God”

Illustration: Years ago as a young man, I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, and began a life long journey trying to live a life of serving God the best way that I knew how. Sometime Later I contracted Tuberculosis and was sent to Olive View Hospital, Sylmar Ca. while in the hospital My mother died of Leukemia. Needless to say, with the pressures of life weighing in on me, the walls of my personality begin to crumble. I found myself in a backslidden condition, trying to put the pieces of my life back together. I started attending a church in Pacoima, Ca. called “Paradise Church of God in Christ” (C.O.G.I.C.)where I meet my Best Girl. Still looking for God to spiritually heal my broken past, I began looking for a church that taught the Word of God. I was saved but my mind and emotions needed Rebuilding.

Introduction/Background

In the Book of Nehemiah, we see the processes by which the Lord Jesus restores the spiritual walls of our human personality: spirit, soul and body. When a person opens his/her inner being to Jesus Christ and the spirit is reborn,

it’s a close parallel to what happened in Jerusalem when the temple was rebuilt after having been completely destroyed. Worship was at the heart of the people’s life, and

the temple was the place where the worship of the Lord was reinstated. It was the first stage of the reconstruction.

My message is entitled

Rebuilding the Human Personality

Scripture: Nehemiah 4:1-6

Nehemiah 4:1–6 NKJV

1 But it so happened, when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, that he was furious and very indignant, and mocked the Jews. 2 And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish—stones that are burned?” 3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall.” 4 Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity! 5 Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders. 6 So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.

Key Points

1. Rebuilding the gates

–The first stage of the reconstruction of the human personality is when the spirit is reborn.

In the same way, the temple was rebuilt—in particular, the walls of the city around that temple. The gates that had been burned by their enemies, because of the past failures of the people, would become centers of strength.

The gates in those days were more than just means of coming and going, the gates were where the business of the community was handled. It’s where military decisions were made and city government rested.

a. Gates essentially have to do with order and government. In terms of the human personality, that means sanity and stability.

The mind and emotions need to be intact because all decisions come from there.

You need to be able to make good decisions in every area of your life.

We all have bagage

b. Jesus has come to restore a living spirit within us where we worship God and live in relationship to Him,

Psalm 51:10 NKJV

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

God wants to restore our personalities to wholeness.

In the same way that Nehemiah helped to clear the rubble and rebuild the walls,

the Lord Jesus, by the ministry of the Holy Spirit, comes to clear out the soul-destroying rubble of our past and rebuild the human soul to stability, order and dignity.

God wants to rebuild your gates, Satan opposes that reconstruction process

2. Satan Opposes That Reconstruction Process

Once Jesus has come to dwell in us, and we’ve been reborn in the Spirit,

Satan has lost dominion in terms of whether we are going to be dead or alive in our spiritual relationship with God.

Listen to this: … A lot of people come to know the Lord and their destiny is Heaven, but they go through a lot of unnecessary hell in this life.

As Nehemiah came to help these people rebuild the walls in Jerusalem and was confronted by two adversaries, Sanballat and Tobiah,

The adversary will use intimidation and mockery

3. The adversary intimidates by mockery

–Sanballat attempted to intimidate by mockery (v. 1). Where in Nehemiah 2 he was laughing, now he became angry with great indignation.

Revelation 12:12 NKJV

Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

in the last times, Satan shall come down (literally, right down in the arena of human experience) with great fury because he knows he has a short time.

The enemy is on the attack !!

4. The enemy’s attacks

Sanballat is a powerful picture of the adversary’s intent. Satan never goes easy. Jesus said he comes to steal, kill and destroy—that’s his entire program.

John 10:10 NKJV

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

With great indignation, mocking and anger, Sanballat is a picture of the devil.

He speaks five things to his troops concerning the Jews (v. 2).

1. “What are these feeble Jews doing?”

–The first thing he does is talk about their weakness. :

What are you trying to get your life together for? Are you trying to be independent?

You know what’s going to happen—you’re going to stop trusting God.

You’re better off when you’re in this feeble condition. Have you ever heard anybody say that God really wants you to be sick or under constant pressure because you’ll trust Him more when you’re in bad shape?

That’s exactly what Sanballat is saying.

2. “Will they fortify themselves?”

Sanballat says, “Once they get the walls up, they’ll be in rebellion.”

But what will really happen once the walls are up is that Sanballat won’t have any more dominion over them.

3. “Will they offer sacrifices?”

It is a known fact that in the history of these people, a power is generated when they worship their Lord.

Sanballat is talking about whether they will be able to worship their God with a credible evidence of His power in their midst.

Until this time, all around the exterior of these walls is rubble, and these people go there to worship. You can imagine how vulnerable they were to mockery.

4. “Will they complete it in a day?”

This mockery says they have talked about it for a long time but it never gets done.

it was approximately twelve years.

There is an awesome weariness and almost soul-destroying loss of tenacity of faith that comes when things go on and on and on.

Proverbs 13:12 NKJV

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

Galatians 6:9 NKJV

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

5. “Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish—stones that are burned?”

Sanballat is pointing out the hopelessness of the task.

The only material Nehemiah brought with him was lumber for the gates.

They were going to redeem the material for the walls out of the rubbish.

When completed, this wall will be the recovery of what was there and had been ruined.

Conclusion

God wants to glorify Himself in you and me by taking the rubble and pain of our past and turning it into an object of His glory. Only God can do that. The present ministry of the Holy Spirit gives rise to the expectation that whatever has happened to you, the Lord is able to recover, reclaim, restore, renew, rebuild out of what has been broken, and to bring full restoration to your life, your personality, your character, and your mind.

The adversary’s tactics are bent on destroying any confidence in your heart that these things could happen. To anything that tells you you’re just too weak and it can’t happen, there’s an answer: Don’t give up. Recognize the adversary’s voice and tactics. He’s a liar. Whenever he says it’s hopeless, say, “Get out of here in the Name of Jesus.” And glorify Him, because He, by His Spirit, has come to put you together..

The Word of God says in:

John 3:16 NKJV

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:13 NKJV

13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
