Hebrews 11:32-40
What a relief it is in this busy, and burdened life to know that there is real victory to be claimed by the life that trusts and follows Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 11 has taught us that living through faith will result in a multitude of spiritual fruits:
sacrifice,
fulfillment of purpose,
protection,
obedience,
strengthening,
endurance of trials,
moving forward,
seeing our lives clearly through vision,
a refusal to sin,
a continuance in the faith,
and it is through faith that we gain our salvation.
Now as we conclude this tremendous chapter, the Holy Spirit brings the life of faith to its natural conclusion by summing up the lives of many others who lived through faith.
That conclusion is simply this:
Those who choose to live through faith WIN!
Not only do they win, but they ALWAYS win!
Please understand...Faith does not isolate us from the pain, trials, and cares of life—but it does insulate us.
God has given animals natural adaptions for differing climates of the world.
These adaptions do not isolate them from the cold, heat, or dampness of their climates, but the adaptions insulate them from allowing the harmful effects of extreme climates to overcome and destroy them.
So is faith to the Christian.
Living with full assurance, obedience and trust in God, His Word, and His Spirit despite consequences or circumstances does not isolate us from harmful situations.
As a matter of fact, sometimes it leads us toward them (Joseph, Moses, Paul, and others).
But faith teaches us to trust God through those circumstances and situations.
Trusting God is always enough!
Over what situations will God help me to gain victory in my life?
How will faith change my perspective of living and decision making?
At the conclusion of Hebrews 11 we are brought to three incredible and absolute victories that will be won when we choose to live through faith in Christ:
We will see Victory through
I. God’s Miraculous Power
32 And what shall I more say?
for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
The lives of the overcomers are recounted here.
God often takes pleasure in providing victories over the enemies of faith in order to reveal His great power and wisdom.
His power many times led to:
Subdued kingdoms
Working righteousness
Obtained promises
Stopping the mouths of lions
Quenching the violence of fire
Escaping the edge of the sword
Out of weakness becoming strong
Waxing valiant in fight
Turning to flight the armies
Receiving the dead raised to life again
While Satan is employing many devices in an effort to destroy us,
God is empowering us through faith to overcome his crippling devices.
God has two very important experiences for those who gain victory over the circumstances of life
A. Experience God’s Provision
Missionary Hudson Taylor had this famous motto: “God’s work, done God’s way, will not lack God’s support.”
Is this true?
You mean if we live the way God said to live and do the work He has told us to do, we will have God’s provision?
Let’s ask our heroes:
Gideon, can you defeat thousands with only 300?
Barak, Sisera is more powerful than you, can you win the battle?
Samson, one man against a thousand—with the jawbone of a donkey?
Jephthae, you’re the unwanted, illegitimate son of a harlot, will you ever amount to anything?
By faith he gained a great victory against the Children of Ammon.
David, a sling and a stone against a giant?
We say is this possible?
God can provide victory over any circumstance through His power and provision!
The question is Whose hands are you in?
A basketball in my hands is worth about $19.
A basketball in Michael Jordan’s hands is worth about $33 million.
It depends whose hands it’s in.
A baseball in my hands is worth about $6.
A baseball in Mark McGuire’s hands is worth $19 million.
It depends whose hands it’s in.
A rod in my hands may keep away a wild animal.
A rod in Moses’ hands will part the mighty sea.
It depends whose hands it’s in.
A sling shot in my hands is a kid’s toy.
A sling shot in David’s hand is a mighty weapon.
It depends whose hands it’s in.
Two fish and five loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches.
Two fish and five loaves of bread in God’s hands will feed thousands.
It depends Whose hands it’s in.
Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse.
Nails in Jesus Christ’s hands produced salvation for the entire world.
It depends whose hands it’s in.
As you see now it depends whose hands it’s in.
So put your concerns, your worries, your fears, your hopes, your dreams, your families and your relationships in God’s hands because it depends Whose hands it’s in.
B. Experience God’s Protection
God provided victory, righteousness, and promises…through faith
When we trust God through faith, we are often delivered through the power that God has to offer.
That power is far beyond our understanding.
But His power must be the foundation of our faith.
As Israel made their way into the Promised Land of Caanan, God delivered them from each of their enemies.
One particular city, the city of Gibeon, made peace with the Israelites.
Many of the surrounding kings heard of the truce and moved against Gibeon.
This city called unto Joshua for help and Joshua left Gilgal to defend the people of the city of Gibeon.
God provided a great victory and the kings and their armies fled from them.
Desiring complete victory, Joshua cried out for the day to last.
You mean, God can do that?
YES, and those who experience the victories of God in their life experience God’s supernatural power and protection.
