Be Anxious for Nothing
Be Anxious for Nothing
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Be Anxious for Nothing
Be Anxious for Nothing
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Overcoming Anxiety
Overcoming Anxiety
“Be anxious for nothing” BUT “In Everything”.
Paul prefaces the source of our anxiety with three antidotes: Prayer, Supplication, and Thanksgiving.
Prayer
The Greek word translated as “prayer” is proseuche (Strong’s G4335) that means “a prayer addressed to God”.
Prayer would include bringing general petitions to God.
Prayer would also include the regular devotion of prayer to know God, to be assured of His love, and to gain His perspective.
Supplication
The Greek word translated as supplication is deesis (Strong's G1162) which refers to an urgent request to meet a need (such as in a crisis). (See Hebrews 5:7)
Believers are to keep their focus on Christ by taking immediate, critical, and urgent needs to God in the fervency of supplication.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving offered before God answers is an expression of faith that God has heard, He cares, His promises are sure, and He will answer.
Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;
Let your requests be made known to God.
Cast all your cares upon the Lord.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Set your mind on kingdom priorities and trust God to take care of the rest
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Let the peace of God guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus
Peace stands like a sentinel at the door of the heart and mind to warn of the approach of fear, anxiety, and worry.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Listen to the sentinel of peace that warns of the approach of anything that brings fear, anxiety, and worry.
The Peace of God
The Peace of God
The Greek word translated "peace" is eirene (Strong's #1515) that means, "a state of tranquility exempt from the rage and havoc of war, peace, harmony, concord; of Christianity, the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is."
The "peace of God"
The peace of God is peace that comes from God.
The peace of God doesn’t come from this world.
This world can’t give you God’s peace, so it can’t take it away.
The peace of God is not fragile.
This world's peace is fragile, external and uncertain.
This world’s peace depends upon the tranquility of present circumstances, circumstances it cannot control.
The world strives for peace by controlling or avoiding conflict.
The world’s peace is elusive and fragile. It is ultimately unattainable in this fallen world. The world cannot give what only Christ can give--true peace on the inside regardless of circumstances.
The peace of God holds us together when everything else is falling apart.
The peace of God surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).
How is it possible to have peace in the midst of a crisis or in the midst of a storm?
How is it possible to have peace in a world filled with lawlessness, corruption, chaos, persecution, and turmoil?
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.
God’s peace is offered through Jesus Christ.
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Response to the Word
Response to the Word
Has anxiety filled your heart, mind, and soul?
Come to Jesus and find rest for your soul.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Cast all your cares on the LORD knowing that He cares for you.
Let the peace of Jesus fill your heart and mind.
Keep your mind set on God’s promises and always give Him thanks!
