“Our bright, shiny overlords” is a pretty ridiculous title, isn’t it? And it’s totally absurd to give such a label to our phones, don’t you think? After all, they’re just devices that we control, right? Although it makes you wonder why we spend a third of our conscious lives in front of their inviting light (on average). And as we saw last week, it’s the things we think we’re in control of that are often in control of us. As we look at Isaiah 44 this Sunday, we’ll see the true absurdity of our idols, we’ll note the urge to ‘stop and think’ about our devotion, and we’ll hear the call to ‘remember’ and ‘return’ to our Maker and Saviour.
