(Matthew 5:38-42)
Introduction:
1. Almost two weeks ago a 5-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl were both
shot because of a road rage incident in Nassau County.
2. This incident was the result of immature people with unmanaged anger
and guns.
3. We know that we are to be forgiving and to be loving but if we do not
learn how to address the things that do make us angry then it could lead us
into sin.
Body: I. We must manage our anger.
A. The only way to start managing our anger is to admit we are angry. (Matthew 5:21, 22)
B. Is it a sin to be angry? (Ephesians 4:26-27)
C. Unmanaged anger can lead to sin and problems in our lives.
D. Nehemiah acknowledged he was angry. (Nehemiah 5:6)
II. We must manage our attitude.
A. Once we acknowledge our anger, we must address our own mindset and consult with ourselves and God about wheat we are going to do. (Matthew 5:39)
B. What are we going to do with that anger? (Ephesians 4:26-27)
C. Holding onto anger without doing anything with it gives a foothold for sin and for us to lash out without thinking.
D. Nehemiah consulted with himself to figure out what to do. (Nehemiah 5:7)
III. We must manage our actions
A. Once we acknowledge anger and consult ourselves, we need to choose to act constructively instead of destructively. (Matthew 5:43-48)
B. How are we going to handle the events that made us angry?
C. Anger is something that must be addressed and that requires action.
D. Nehemiah rebuked the nobles and rulers about their injustice. (Nehemiah 5:7)
Conclusion:
1. Are we addressing our anger in a healthy and constructive way?
2. Anger is a natural emotion and is something that we must train ourselves
to deal with. (1 Corinthians 9:22-27)
