Our heart. Parents, one of the things that I am convinced after 9 years of ministry in student ministry is that a Parent is the most important voice in a student’s life.
More than that, we are called to move the gospel forwards within our own family
Psalm 145:4 “4 One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.”
each generation has a job to point the younger one to mighty works of God.
Deuteronomy 6:6- “6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.”
Parents, you do not complete your child’s faith but you do get to foster it. This is your turn to be faithful to God.
I want to share with you some principles that relate to Gen Z.
There is no secret to disciple your kids.
Invitation/Challange
The Holy Spirit is the power to reach. You don’t need to be a better parent, you need to be a better disciple maker- which means you need to be a disciple.
The Bible is still relevant to equip and disciple your kids.
Heb. 4:12 “12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” The Gospel can still save.
Isaiah 53: 6 “6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
“Everyone is a theologian- the question is whether you are a good one or not.”
Gen Z knows brokeness all to well:
Whether from your family or their friends
Mental and Emotional health
Sexuality
Gender
Culture disciples too. Culture preaches too. Culture shares a gospel too. It’s just a bad one
They are on a truth journey.
Young people are desperate for truth. They are a truth hungry generation
Young people do not trust institutions, the church, while not an institution, it is seen as an institution.
With these principles in mind, I want to talk to you about social media and how this shapes your student identity.
