Men’s Bible Study 10.26.22

Romans 4:1–3 NKJV
1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
Genesis 12:1–5 NKJV
1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.
It was accounted to Abraham righteousness that word of God in his life was enough to move on.
Saying yes to God is attributed to him as righteousness
How many times do we weigh the pros and cons of god’s word
Abraham had childlike obedience
What is child like obedience?
Child like faith?
Do you think obedience or trust comes first?
You don’t consider outcomes other than the word of God in your life
Obedience is the pre requisite to the blessing
What is an area you have a hard time having Faith in ?
What area is easiest?
Romans 4:4–5 NKJV
4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. 5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
When you get caught up on works, you feel like someone owes you something
Do you ever feel like the world, or people owe you something?
Have you ever felt like God owed you something?
Religion tries to earn God’s grace or his love and it turn we feel like we are owed a debt
It’s through Faith we are justified
What is faith in your life?
How do you grow your faith?
Like confidence
Philippians 1:6–7 NKJV
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; 7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.
How do you grow natural confidence?
How do you grow spiritual confidence?
Why do you think Paul uses Abraham and David as examples of righteousness?
Father (Abraham) and Warrior (David)
David grew his confidence by practicing his craft
1 Samuel 17:34–36 NKJV
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
What are you going after in your life right now?
