John 14:1–14 (NLT)
1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
Some Background...
Father’s House
Reminder of temple, not just in Jerusalem, but the heavenly temple of which the earthly one is a replica - and therefore points to
Points towards the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21), which we will see later is, is the Heavenly Temple coming down to the restored earth!
Marriage Proposal..
Jesus is promising to come back!
And, in the mean time we have the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us and assist us!
LOST!?
Have you been lost?
Lost in Venice
We are LOST!
We are lost due to sin and death and we NEED someone to lead us...
Thinking about this while hunting
“Lost in the Woods” Song Clip
Like Christoff who is lost without Anna, we are lost without Christ. We feel like we are wandering aimlessly.
But, Jesus is the sign, he is true north. Why? Because he is the way, the truth and the life.
Jesus is the answer
Jesus is the way, truth, and life
Not a way
Not directing us to the way
He is THE WAY
Why?
Because he and the Father are ONE
If we see him we see the Father
If we know Him, we know the Father
John 1:1–5 NLT
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 1:18 NLT
18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
John 10:30 NLT
30 The Father and I are one.”
John 14:9–11 NLT
9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
John 10:37–38 NLT
37 Don’t believe me unless I carry out my Father’s work. 38 But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.”
Truth
He is truth! Not a truth. He is THE TRUTH
True is true whether you accept it or not.
Jesus is truth
He is life
He is the source of ALL that is life
He is the source of new life and new creation
We get to the Father through him

The point - Jesus and the Father are ONE
Is Jesus arrogant? Is this statement arrogant?
Some say it is- but they miss the point and the story
I believe it us a statement full if grace
Jesus here states that he is the way. There is NO GUESSING. It is not as though God said, “There’s a way to me, but I am not going to show you and tell you what it is.” No, God sent HIMSELF to be the WAY!
It is NOT arrogant if we look at what Jesus did to be the way and it is not arrogant if we model that example of Jesus (John 13...)
But, he has not only promised to be the way (or point towards the way) he journeyed with us and promises to continue to journey with us by the power of His Holy Spirit!
So, that leads to the statement on power and acts... if we model Jesus, we will do his works.
This leads into the promises of the Holy Spirit to come and be Jesus's presence with us
Asking for things in Jesus's name is asking the Father, the Creator, the Judge to put His stamp of approval on the matter.
1st make sure you are aligned with the work God is doing
A thought on prayer
Prayer us NOT for us to get want we want
It is for us to hear what God wants.
So, then we can align ourselves with God and ask for things in Jesus' name - who is one withthe Father.
So where do we go with this?
Are you lost?
Maybe not lost in sin, but lost in the frustrations of life.
Do you need the presence of Jesus to point you out of that maze caused by the lostness you feel?
Maybe you need prayer for someone that is lost and/or struggling.
