1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
From these high flights into the eternal and divine, Paul turns to the daily duties of the home, and demands that in the simplest domestic concerns the disciple should ever keep in mind the high claims of Christ. No act of life can be left outside the sacred enclosure of His everlasting love. As the moon affects the tides around the world, even in the smallest indentations of the coast, so must the power of Christ’s resurrection make itself felt in the behavior of the servant and the child.
It is especially beautiful to notice the Apostle’s constant reference to the bond-slaves who formed so important an element in the early Church. There they learned that in Christ all souls were free, and that in Him also master and slave were brethren. Stealing out at night from the arduous labors of his lot, many a poor slave would return with new conceptions of his daily tasks, to be applied to the service rendered to his Lord. No angel in heaven’s high temple has more definite service to the King than any honest and industrious servant may daily render to Jesus. Here is the dignity of labor indeed! And, masters, remember your Master.
Prayer is security
Relationship health is possible through prayer
Relationships fail because of a lack of prayer
Prayer is the mark of a genuine relationship with the Lord
Authentic Christians are praying Christians
God’s people are to be known as people of prayer
7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, And make them joyful in my house of prayer: Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; For mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
The Old Testament teaches God used a tabernacle, temples
but now you are the temple if you’re saved
God dwells in you
There is something very human about not praying
us thinking we can live without prayer
Jesus said without me ye can do nothing
Walking with God = prayer
Fellowshipping with God is through prayer
If we have weak prayer lives we will have weak relationships
Families without prayer will be families of strife
Spouses without prayer will be spouses that fight
Continue in prayer
Private prayer
Public prayer
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
God desires that dedicated prayer is a part of our life.
Committed
Unwavering
Maintaining prayer
We need more prayer not less
Prayer is the most powerful activity we can be a part
Pray without ceasing
The church as a whole should be praying corporately, consistently
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Continued faithfully in prayer - this is our christian heritage
Prayer is an invitation to God to act in our life
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
Prayer brings supernatural
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
One meeting 3 thousand people were saved
Private prayer
Corporal prayer
Daily salvations
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Assembling together - praying
Leaving the church after prayer = Boldness
the produce of praying together is boldness and power in your witness
Pray in your home
Pray with other believers
How you pray in your home is connected to how you pray with other believers
Private, Family, Church
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
Private place of prayer before you go into your public place of service
We cannot neglect the private time of prayer
We need to serve others in the church
We need to fellowship
We need to teach
We need to preach
But we cannot neglect our prayer time
Listen to people that know how to pray
Everything must be built on the foundation of prayer
Prayer is not an emotional experience it is the privilege and duty of every child of God.
If we do anything just because we feel like it, our faith is in our feelings and not in the Lord.
Our faith should be in the Lord throughout the day.
Praying always
Take my yoke upon you
How do you get in the yoke with the Lord
My burden is light - there will be rest
Worry fret anxiousness is not a part of the yoke relationship with Jesus
Praying in Jesus name in the spirit
Cast all your cares upon him for he careth for you
take all your garbage and put it in Jesus care and let Him
2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
Watch = alert awake vigilance
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
I have kept the faith = praying for you
I have finished my course = praying for you
12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
Laboring = fighting, defending
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
The enemy wants to kill steal and destroy
As a Dad i am watching alert
negligence in our prayer life will
Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Do you no why it’s so hard for you to pray = It’s warfare
It’s a fight
Watch
7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
“With thanksgiving” = grateful for what has been given
We all have many things to be thankful
Grateful for what He will Give us
Thank God in advance for answering your prayers
Abraham Called those things that be not as thought they were
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Consistency in prayer
Watching in prayer = vigilance
Thanksgiving in prayer =
Pray that people will hear the Gospel
That they would respond to the Gospel
We should be praying every day throughout the day for people to have ears to hear the Gospel with their heart
5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Kindness is what this world needs
Kindness is what your neighbors need
Kindness is what Jesus gave to us
Pray
Come and kneel
Pray about a circumstance of need
Are you saved?
Do you know you’re going to heaven - God wants you to know
Would you like someone to pray with you?
