Introduction
we have all (for men) at some point thought that we want to marry the proverbs 31 woman. many sisters are reading the same text and seeking to be that kind of woman. all those desires are good, but we need to check them through a close study of the passage. one thing i shall argue in this sermon is that this woman is described and not prescribed.
my main argument is that this kind of woman is the product of a kind of man. In other words this woman is made, and not found. we shall have to answer the question of who is the text speaking?
proverbs 1:8 and 31:1ff clearly show us that the text is addressing males and not females. lets look to the text
The big question v.10
The Perfect Woman Described
a. This is about who she was
b. Her husband is at the center of the describtion v23
notice that the describtion starts with how her husband trusted her, and ends with her husband praising her. the fact that the husband is at the start, center, and end is the wise man’s way of saying that she is largely a product of her husnnad’s attitudes and words and she benefits him at the gates.
3. Jesus is the Perfect Man
a. God speaks Tenderly to his bride (Hos 2:14 ““Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.”
b. He makes his bride into what he desires (Eph 5:25ff)
