What good is it?

Luke 5:1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

Disciple or follower?

jonn 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
John 6 : 35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe
Some people will follow Jesus not because of what what they can get from Him. I go on Wednesdays because man do i need that midweek pickme up. I go on Sunday as a conscience cleanser to say sorry for the things I did over the weekend. The story of the 10 lepers who get healing from Jesus but only 1 comes back to thank Him has come up quite a bit in sozo over recent months. Its ompletely understandable as to why they wouldn’t. They haven’t been able to partake in almost any par of society for who knows how long! I would be so excited to finally get back to work, to my wife and dog, to my church. Can Sozo be a group of young adults that are mindful enough to continually stop ourselves and realize who is giving all these blessings and give thanks to Jesus!?
From verse 26 we can see that Jesus is not sugar coating anything He is obedient to a God that loves the multitude and us today too much to beat around the bush and talk to us like we’re toddlers. God knows our time here is short and its too short to not take our Christianity seriously. So by now John writes many of his disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
Simon Peters response is so genuine. Theres no where else we could go! You’re the only one that speaks into enternity Jesus. Like verse 27 says Peter is not working for the things of this world that will perish. Listen to me Sozo we need to stop caring so much about things that don’t build up the kingdom of God. When I read peters words of where would we go Jesus i can’t help but think to the moment when he first said yes to Jesus. Turn back to Luke 5:8
When Simon Peter SAW it. what did he see? He saw fish and alot of em. The fish symbolized so much more though. Let me rephrase that on the surface it seemed like much more. If i could put this verse into modern concepts we looked and saw essentially everything we couldve wanted. All the friends, influence, money, all the social media followers, whatever it is for you fill in the blanks. Simon saw a net full of everthing he wanted. But most importantly I think he saw how that was quickly the net was filled and realized if it could be full one second it could be empty the next second.
In that realization he did as verse 11 writes and left everything and followed Him. I have always looked in awe at this story and those like it where someone leaves eveything to simply follow this man named Jesus. if im honest with you until this revelation I’ve never understood how someone could just drop everything, but it makes sense now. Not to downplay the amount of faith and boldness it takes to do such a thing but it makes sense now; because in the eyes of someone whos experienced enough life and now has encountered Jesus its the only reasonable choice to make. At the end of the day where else would anyone go to find true salvation.
