Do you love what God hates?
Is your loyalty to God divided?
When speaking on citizenship, Teddy Roosevelt said “In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.
But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here.
Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all.
We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
Roosevelt was saying that one who says they want to be American but also something else is not an American.
He was saying that there is no room for split loyalty, and that is what God is saying here.
God hates the world, yet too many Christians love the world.
We are to hate the world, which does not mean the people, nor the physical earth.
Rather it means the ideas and philosophies that are of the world, that go against God.
The ideas of evolution and survival of the fittest, the idea that life is about you and your happiness, the idea that people can do whatever they want are all against the Word of God.
When it says “the love of the father is not in him” does not mean that God does not love that person, but rather that that person who loves the world does not love God.
If I were to say that
What do we need to hate?
He then says that what the world is made up of
Genesis 3 has all those these
Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
Lust of the flesh
Are things that that will satisfy your flesh
The lust of the flesh desires might not be inherently bad
Genesis 3-Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food
Matthew 4- to tempt Jesus, Satan told Him to turn stones for bread
What is wrong with eating?
Nothing, except they would have gone outside of God’s will.
How many of you like bowling?
How many of you use bumpers?
What is the point of the bumpers?
To keep the ball from going in the gutter, so the Bible is the bumper for our lives that keeps us from getting
So the lust of the flesh is trying to fulfill the desires of the flesh through sources outside of the bound of God’s Word.
Stealing for food
All this immorality going on, is a twisting of God given desires in a biblical marriage
Finding comfort in drugs and alcohol
Wanting to rest, and being lazy
Lust of the eyes
Lust of the eyes, is something that looks good to have, or if you do this, you get what your eyes are desiring, and everytime in order to get it, it results in compromise
About 100 years ago in Chicago was Al Capone.
Al Capone would pay off police officers, so he could be unbothered.
Yet came Eliot Ness and his team, who were called the Untouchables, because they could not be bribed, but the other police officers were bribed because Capone knew how to appeal to them.
Enemy will reward compromise by giving you something that seems better
A better paycheck
A trophy
Promotion
Better status in the eyes of man
Eve saw the fruit looked good
David saw Bathsheba was beautiful
Achan saw the piece of gold
Pride of life
The pride of life is the temptation for people to bring us glory, and make us important
Doing things that will bring us glory or doing things for our glory
Eve knew that the fruit would make her wise and she would be as God
Serving out of a heart of pride
Disobeying authority because you want to be in charge, all comes from the pride of life
Why do we need to hate it?
It is temporary and will pass away
Revelation 21:1 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”
revelation 21:27 “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
But he that doeth the will of God abideth forever,
Not salvation by works, but if we are saved it gives us a desire for works
Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
Also service done will bring eternal rewards
If we are loving this world, it means we are investing in this life, however if we are living for the Lord, it means we are investing in the next life
Matthew 6:19-20 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:”
Imagine investing in a company that pays back only 1%percent of what you invested for 5 years, so if you invest $100, you get $1 dollar back each year, for a grand total of $5.
You lose $95.
Or if you invest the same money in a different company, which after 5 years, you get double your investment each year.
So 5 years in you get $200, and the next year you get $200, and it goes on forever.
Also this life is a small dot on a line.
Why spend all of this temporary life for this temporary dot?
Do you hate the world?
Are you loyal to God?
