I DID IT HIS WAY - Psalm, 39:4
INTRO: Frank Sinatra hit “My Way.”
And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
David has a different, more spiritual way to say it…Psalm 39.4 “4 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.”
“Lord, make me to know my end and what is the extent of my days: Let me know how transient I am.”
KJV
Our lives are filled with journeys; one after another.
Journey of Education: Employment; Marriage; Family; Retirement.
Throughout our journeys we wonder, how will it end?
Perhaps that’s why David asked the Lord to remind him, let him know how he’s lived his life.
How have we lived?
That’s the backward look.
What has been achieved?
For Pearl, many achievements.
What has been most important?
Girls, Grands, Family, Friends
It’s important that you’re able to reflect on the good things you did for people and not throw it in their face.
As we reflect on those things we find comfort as take the FORWARD LOOK.
We look at our future hope - to live eternally with God.
Gen 24
We look at our reality - our transition.
Little Girl on the Bus.
John 14:2 I am going to prepare a place for you?”
Pearl’s journey on earth may have ended but her life continues in heaven; in the new home prepared for her;
And we who are alive and remain can put our trust in the Word of God.
1 Thess 4:15-18 “15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died.
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God.
First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.
17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
Then we will be with the Lord forever.
18 So encourage each other with these words.”
This is a promise to those who have placed their trust in Him.
CLOSE: If Pearl were to write the last verse of Frank Sinatra’s hit, it would’ve been something like this.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it HIS way.
