Sermon Tone Analysis

Before we start this weekend I want you to know that I have been and am continuing to pray that you will be open and honest.

There is no such thing as a bad question.

Everyone one of us in this room agrees on one thing for certain - and that is that we will all die.

Our theme verse for this weekend is Philippians 2:9-11

Over the next couple of days we will be answering three questions: 1) who is God, 2) who is Jesus, and 3) who is the Holy Sprit?

1.

The Holy Spirit is God -

Acts 5:1–5 (NASB95)

1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? 4 “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own?

And after it was sold, was it not under your control?

Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart?

You have not lied to men but to God.”

5 And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.

2. The Role of the Holy Spirit -

In the OT

Numbers 11:23–25 (NASB95)

23 The Lord said to Moses, “Is the Lord’s power limited?

Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not.”

24 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord.

Also, he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and stationed them around the tent.

25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon the seventy elders.

And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied.

But they did not do it again.

In the NT

John 15:26–16:15 (NASB95)

26 “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, 27 and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.

1 “These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling.

2 “They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. 3 “These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me.

4 “But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them.

These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. 5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’

6 “But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me;

11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

14 “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

15 “All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
