Let’s briefly look at the four cups this morning.
I want to mention there is a fith cup that we will look at next month.
But for this morning before we take communion lets look at these four cups of passover and what they poing to in the Lord’s Supper we are going to partake in this morning.
Look at verse 6,
The first promise we drink to in the passover meal is what?
God promises I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
WHat does they symbolize in our life?
The isrealites where literarly in physical slavery.
What is our slavery?
What is every person born, besides Jesus, a slave to?
SIN!
What could the Isrealites do to free themselves fomr the slavery of Egypt?
Nothing ang the same is true of us.
We can do nothing to free ourselves from sin.
So God promises us that while we are dead in our sins and transgressions and while we can do nothing to save ouselves He will.
Isn’t that how we come to the table this morning?
We are not coming based on our merrits.
When we pause and exaimine ourselves it isn’t about are you good enough
What is the second promise that we drink to at the passover seder?
Back to verse 6, I will deliver you from slavery.
As you come to the table this morning are you struggling with sin? Do you a have struggles with deep rooted sin that controls you?
Are you a slave?
God has promised at this tables that the Blood of Jesus Christ can set you freee this morning!”
It is not about your effort.
It is about your surrender.
What is the third cup we drink to?
Back to verse 6, I will redeem you with an outstreched are with great acts of judgement.
God utterly destroyed the army of Eygpt.
What are we celebrating here this morning?
Jesus redeemed us, He utterly destroyed death.
Amen?
Let’s look at the fourth cup we celebrate.
Verse 7
This is the promise that we still cling to at the table this moring.
Jesus did not drink this fourth cup, I believ we are still looking forward to it’s fullfilment.
In the second coming of Christ when He is coming back to retrieve His bride.
And we will drink it at the wedding feast of the Lamb.
