Introduction:

In 2019 Florida had the tenth highest divorce rate in the U.S. with an average of 3.5 people out of every 1,000 had a divorce that year.
V. We could talk about how divorce is a sin and when you can and cannot remarry but if we talk more about a good marriage then maybe we can talk less about divorce.

Body:
I. Marriage is a joining by God.
A. The Israelites had taken this passage in Deuteronomy 24 as permission to divorce.
1.
This was not Moses’s intention.
2. Notice that this is a situation where if this, and this, and this, then you cannot go back to her.
3.
This was to keep them from acting rashly or mischievously.
B. Jesus took them back past Moses.
1. Marriage was made to be between male and female.

2. It was only ever supposed to be two in a marriage.
(Mt.
19:5)
3. It was for life.
(Mt.
19:6)
C. God is the only one who has the authority to dissolve a marriage.

Since it was made by God and is a privilege from him, he has determined that the only reasons a marriage dissolves are for fornication, or death.
2. Anything outside of those reasons cause adultery.
II.
Marriage has roles to be filled.
(Eph.
5:22-33)
A. The Husband and wife both have duties to fulfil in marriage.
1.
Since Adam and Eve, the roles of man and woman in marriage have been divided.
2. Eve’s desire would be for her husband.

3:16)
3. Adam would work for the food.
(Gen.
3:17-19)
4. Of course, today our society has changed to the point where many wives have to work to meet the bills.

However, some roles have not changed.
B. Man’s role.
(Eph.
5:25-33)
1.
We are to love our wives as Christ loved the Church
2. We are to Cherish them.
3. We are to give ourselves to them.
C. Woman’s role.
(Eph.
5:22-24)
1. Be subject to your husband.
2. Let your husband be the head of the house.
(1 Cor.
11:3)
3. Help him.
III.
Marriages fail for three main reasons.
A. Money issues.
1.
This issue most often occurs when there is no transparency in the relationship.
2. The husband and wife are to be one flesh, your arm doesn’t move without you knowing about it.
B. Sexual issues.
1.
We teach often that sex is something our young people are not to do, then they get into marriage and then it’s ok.
2. This is a conversation that needs to be had before marriage between the couple, so they understand each other.
C. Communication issues.
1.
If this issue would be resolved, it would most likely solve the first two problems.
2. Communication is how we start relationships, and the lack of it can very well end them.
Conclusion:
I. We are all created by God and under his rules about marriage but also about life and salvation.
II.
We must believe in Jesus and be baptized for the remission of sins if we desire to be saved form our sin.
