We have heard that Jesus is the bread, water, life, shepherd, light. So, who is Jesus? What do you think?
Let me read a few verses from the bible
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
What did we learn today?
He came as Light of the world.
Can you imagine if there was no light at all. And it was completely dark. Close your eyes. What if you were blind? What if there was no such thing as light.
How would you find your way around? If there is no light there are no torches to show the way.
How would you prevent yourself from tripping over things? If there is no light there is no lamp or light switch.
What if you were on a boat in a storm? And you are afraid your boat is going to hit rocks but you don’t know where you are? Of there is no light you cannot see the land and you cannot see a lighthouse.
God says the whole world is in a kind of darkness.
At the beginning God made the universe. And God said let there be light! And there was! But people rejected God, who is the true light. For some reason people love darkness.
But God sent His only Son into the world to be the Light of the World so we would not be in darkness anymore. According to Jesus we are like blind people going about in the dark. Jesus has come as the Light so that we can truly see.
We all really need Jesus.
What is the darkness that we have been talking about? It is our sin.
Who knows what sin is?
It is everything that is not done for God. It is all the things we do wrong and the things we don’t do right.
And this sin makes darkness so that we cannot know God. We are all in the dark.
The people who loved darkness more than light killed the light, they killed Jesus.
But Jesus died for our darkness, for our wrongs.
The story did not end there because Jesus rose from the dead - He came alive again winning the battle over death and sin. His death produced even more light.
He came as the Light to remove the darkness between us and God.
He came as the Light as He is the way who can give direction about the way we live our lives.
He is the light who makes us see the dangers to avoid. He is the light that helps us see.
And Jesus wants us to come out of darkness to Him and receive and believe Him for eternal life, so this darkness between us and God disappears into light.
When we ask Jesus into our lives He makes us light too. Then everyone else will notice that we are different for we are also light in the dark.
What does light do?
Can you imagine that if you were blind and you saw for the first time? To suddenly have the lights switched on. Now that person can walk in the light.
Well light helps us to see, And helps others to see. Insects are attracted to light and will fly close to it.
People will see the light of Jesus in us and will want to have it. And other people prefer to have darkness and will not like us. Jesus was liked by people and not liked by others.
What do you choose? Light or Darkness? Invite Jesus into your life and you will have light and help for all your life. Don’t choose Jesus you choose darkness and you will not know where you are going in life.
I was 15 years old when I asked Jesus into my life. He has been my light since then. Some children ask Jesus into their lives when only 5 or 6. And some wait until they are really old. And some are too late.
My advice is to ask Him in a soon as you can and if you want to it can be today if you believe in Jesus.
Let’s pray.
