Be Imitators Of God

1. Walk In Love (vv.1-2)

God is love – 1 John 4:8,16

Christ set the supreme example of love

It is how we know love - 1 John 3:16

“who loved me and gave himself for me: – Gal. 2:20

The love of Christ should compel us to please and serve the Lord – 2 Cor. 5:14-15

If we walk in love as Christ loved:

Our love should be genuine and authentic – 1 Peter 1:22

Our love should be active – 1 John 3:18

Our love should be sacrificial – 1 John 3:16

Our love should be constant – Rom. 5:6-8

2. Walk In Light (vv. 3-14)

God is light - 1 John 1:5

“You Were Once Darkness”

“Now you are light in the Lord”

Matthew 5:16-17

Phil. 2:15

We are only “the light” when we are “in the Lord”

“Walk as children of light”

What does it mean to walk as children of light?

We do not engage with works of darkness

Sexual Immorality, Impurity and Covetousness

Filthiness, Foolish Talking and Crude Joking

What communion does light have with darkness? – 2 Cor. 6:14

Light and darkness are to be separate – 2 Cor. 6:17

Why shouldn’t we partake in theses things?

Not Fitting for Saints – vv.3-4

No Inheritance In Kingdom of God and Christ – v. 5

Brings Wrath of God – v.6

Unfruitful – v. 11

Shame to Even Speak of Them – v. 12

We produce the fruit of Spirit

“Fruit of the light” (NASB, ASV)

Goodness, Righteousness and truth

We should expose them

3. Walk In Wisdom (vv. 15-21)

Walk carefully

NKJV – Circumspectly

Wuest translates it as "be constantly taking heed how accurately you are conducting yourself.''

Make the best use of the time

Redeem the time (NKJV)

Take heed of the oppurtunitys

Understand the will of the Lord

Be filled with the spirit – Col. 3:16

Give thanks

Submitting to one another

Jesus laid down a principal submission – Matthew 20:27-28

Esteem others better than yourself – Phil. 2:3

Are you walking in love?

Are you walking in light?
