(Genesis 2:20-25)
Introduction: 1. God said that his creation was good and perfect…except one thing.
2. God said out of everything he made the one thing that was not perfect was
for man to be alone.
3. God designed human beings as a creature that cannot exist alone and need
companionship.
4. He then designed marriage as an appropriate means of having a true
companion for life.
5. However, todays society seeing being married as something they can do as
many times, as they want instead of a lifelong commitment as it was
designed.
Body: I. Marriage is a privilege.
A. Israel being God’s chosen people was a privilege. (Deuteronomy 7:6)
B. Not everyone is eligible to marry. (Genesis 2:20-25)
C. The gift of marriage is a privilege that we are given by God, and we can lose that privilege.
II. Marriage is a partnership.
A. Israel was supposed to be God’s partner in the covenant, but they did not trust in him. (Numbers 13:25-33)
B. A partnership requires effort from both sides. (Ephesians 5:22-33)
C. A relationship is 100% from both parties.
III. Marriage is a promise.
A. Israel broke that promise with God again and again. (Hosea 1:2)
B. Marriage is a promise of making two lives one. (Matthew 19:3-9)
C. No one can keep a promise for us that takes commitment on the individual.
Conclusion: 1. So what does the word marriage mean to you?
2. Marriage is not something to be taken lightly so we need to pick our
spouses carefully.
3. To those of us already married appreciate your spouse, tell them you love
them, remember all the reasons you chose them.
