I want to say thank you to a few people this morning. The First is Seth Case who pioneered the Idea of a 2 year Sabbatical Policy. I did not realize how bad I needed a break until I took it.
Thank you Pastor Rustan for taking on the extra load while I was gone.
If you were one of the ones who took on Kids Church while I was gone thank you.
Lastly thank you church for being a people that carry on even when I am not here and for having the heart to let your Pastor rest.
I am excited for where we are going as a church. I felt God speak last week “The Best is Yet to Come!”
Will you believe that with me?
If you have your Bibles turn with me to Romans Chapter 9.
The title of today’s message is
A Heart for the Lost
A Heart for the Lost
As we begin Chapter 9 we are about to see a transition is this letter from Paul to the Roman Church. The First 8 Chapters are spent discussing the doctrines of justification, sanctification, and glorification. When we get to Chapters 12-15 we will see Paul begin to address concerns he has with church life. But First he takes a moment to address God’s plan for the Gentiles and the Jews.
What I love about Paul is his ability to see questions before they come and address them. It is almost as if he is able to match the reader thought for thought and anticipate what questions might be running through their heads.
He starts this section out by addressing a question.
What about the Jews?
What about the Jews?
Let’s pick up in the scripture.........
1 I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit—
2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.
4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises.
5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.
Paul begins with look folks I truly care about the lost.
I am not lying!
My Conscience bears witness to it.
I truly care!
1. When you begin to care about the lost it will change how you interact with the lost.

Adoption

5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Glory
Glory
17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
Covenant
Covenant
16 “This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”
Promises
Promises
14 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Family and Future
Family and Future
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
