Week 4 of 5 What are we supposed to do with our guilt?
Good at justifying things There are some things we cannot justify
There are some wrongs we cannot make right.
Tension
Big Question
How can a sinful person be made right with a holy God? In other words, how can we be saved? We want to look at how the Catholics would answer this but b4 we do… What do you know about Catholicism as a religion?
Weird Facts about Catholicism
The “Devil’s Advocate” or Advocate Diaboli, is a real position within the Catholic Church. Catholics believe that the pope, who is based in Rome, is the successor to Saint Peter, which Christ appointed as the first head of His church. The magical term “hocus pocus” comes from the most sacred moment in Catholic ritual: the consecration of the bread as the body of Christ by the priest speaking the words “This is my body,” which in Latin is Hoc est enim corpus meum.

Galatians 2:15-16 Galatians -
15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
What are these verses saying in your own words? Video AG
We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, from scripture alone, to God be the glory alone
Five solas of the reformation
Halloween 99 thesis (martin Luther) We are saved by Jesus’s work on the cross Look with me at one more passage in scripture
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Jn 19:28–30
What does Jesus mean “it is finished” ?
I have bore the wrath of the father and I have covered the sins of those who will believe in me. In the book the doctrine on which the church rises and falls, Matthew Barrett writes this
By raising Christ from the dead, the Father is essentially announcing to the whole world that he is fully satisfied withe the payment offered at the cross by his own son. Jesus cries, “It is finished,” as he breaths his last, but when he breathes resurrection air on the third day, it is the Father who shouts now, “It is finished.”
If we have to add anything to salvation, Jesus didn't mean what he said on the cross. If I have to earn salvation - even just a part - I have to work for it. If I have to work for it… It is finished??? We practically do this

19 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
The Righteousness of God Through Faith
21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
