12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
Jesus spoke about doing greater works then these. What did He mean?
The greater works isn’t speaking about more spectacular works or more super-natural works.
Its kinda hard to compete against Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Or Jesus feeding the 5,000.
These works though great and phenomenal. There must be greater works then those.
But out of many people who witness these miracles they still rejected Jesus and turned away.
But the greater work is the preaching of the gospel.
Peter in one sermon 3,000 souls where converted this is the greater work!
You could be healed temporally, but this body is dying. The greater work is for our souls to be with Christ.
The Bible Knowledge Commentary 14:12–14
Miracles are important, but some evangelists have done even greater things than these by preaching the good news to many thousands of people.
The greater work is the Spirit living inside of man.
13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
The purpose of prayer. Jesus answers prayer in order to bring glory of the Father!
our prayers should be directed with that goal in mind!
If we ask anything according to His will!
In this context “name” means something like: those who seek his glory and speak accurately for him, who are genuinely his authorized representatives.
name meant allot it meant
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
We have the habit of trying to force our will on God then get frustrated when our prayers aren’t being answered.
The goal of answered prayers are to bring glory to The Father.
Jesus resurrected Lazarus so God could be glorified.
Lazarus got the short end of the stick because he was fine where he was at. Lazarus had to die twice.
Also bearing fruit glorifies the Father.
Jesus ministry has grown and expanded because He went to the Father. When we pray is Jesus name His reach is unrestricted.
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
the disciples’ fruitful conduct is the product of their prayers, prayers offered in Jesus’ name
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
23 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
If we ask anything according to His will!
