Introduction-

(1-3) Give a brief history on the Pharisees. Jesus refused to be contained or confined by any ideology or party. The Pharisees tried to create this pressure to fit into their system, but Jesus said, “NO! I’m outta here!” I have bigger fish to fry…I’m not about your agenda, I’m about my Father’s Business-the Kingdom Agenda! The sad part about this scenario is the Pharisees didn’t even get it right! Jesus wasn’t doing the baptizing anyway, His disciples were!

to be necessary v. — to be unavoidably determined by prior circumstances; sometimes understood with contingency.

through - because of, on account of; in the accusative, a marker of participant being the reason for an event

(v.4) “He had to go through Samaria (He must needs go through Samaria...”) He traveled down through 40 and 2 generations to get to this place in Samaria (some area) - We all have “Some Area” we try to avoid…We are tired so many times because we are so busy spending energy to go around the very things that God is trying to bring us through! Pastor Furtick asserts that our “Some Area” is not “geographical, but spiritual.” - Jesus was CONFRONTATIONAL!

“How much longer will you continue to work around that area in your life that God wants you to walk through?” And, how much longer will you continue to work around it? Keep in mind, it’s not an area of someone else’s life, but your own! We have to face the real issues…we have to confront the real issues…how would Jesus confront the REAL ISSUES? (Illustrate the design of the Christ’s Cross - vertical - up/down; horizontal - across)

(v5) Samaria (where he went); Woman at the Well (who he went for); straight through Samaria (how he went); she came to draw water (that’s what) (v8) He was tired (that’s why) - of His disciples - sometimes you have to send people away, because they become distraction…

(v6) The WELL offered rest (sat down by) and refreshment (water)! Jacob’s well that was gifted to Joseph...

in JOHNs gospel Jesus is the Divine Jesus…Jesus is fully-God…He is the response of the call that started at the bush where Moses stood generations ago. Jesus is not a Johnny-come-lately. Jesus is not a fly-by-night Savior. From Abraham to David (14 generations), from David to the Exile to Babylon (14 generations), from the Exile to Christ (14 generations) = 42 generations. God found a man, used a man (say 3x’s)- but he kept messing up! So finally God said He was tired of man trying to get to me— How about I come to you! (quote John 1:1, 14)
