Introduction

48 The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”

49 “I am not possessed by a demon,” said Jesus, “but I honor my Father and you dishonor me. 50 I am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”

How interesting that Jesus calls them sons of the devil and their response is that Jesus was a Samaratin (insult number one)
NoT My PrEsIdEnT NoT My MeSsIaH
And then call him demon possessed. This is their answer for what they dont understand.
Here is grade A beauty and grace displayed by Jesus. They are literally calling God demon possessed and a pagan half breed, and how does he respond....WORDS OF LIFE!
What an example for us to follow at KCC!

52 At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”

Now the pharisees are furious because Jesus says to follow God’s Word, torah and you will not die. But they didnt understand. All they know is that people die. Abraham died and that is our golden boy. So Jesus is claiming to be greater than Abraham. Now we got problems.
This is the exact frustration you experience when you place your faith in anything other than Jesus. It always falls short. Your expectations change, your priorities change, your’e values change
Abraham was great but nothing like Jesus

54 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. 55 Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”

Jesus re iterates a very important fact. Jesus did not just come and simply declare somehting. He did not come with no witness proof or testimony, he fulfilled every sign given about him and God himself declared this is my Son whom I am pleased. \
He also makes sure to declare his Father was the God they claimed to worship. The God of abraham.
There were many little gs gods and he did not want to get it mistaken with samaritans or anyone else. Jesus was the Son of the only and most high God.
They touted their father Abraham as their go to. But Abraham rejoiced of the coming Messiah.

57 “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”

58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

This is one of my favorite statements Jesus makes.
The Pharisees are like “ You are only 35 years old yet you talk about Abraham like you know him”
But Jesus did know him. Jesus was there when he was created
He said before Abraham was I AM.
Dont miss this Jesus was not merely stating his everlasting existence. It isnt that Jesus was just there. They would not have picked up stones to kill him for merely stating He was everlasting.
He states HE IS GOD EIGO EIMI. That is what would cause them to tear their tunics and be so enraged to kill Him. They have made up their mind. They wanted him dead now and already convicted him with blasphemy.
Here is our good news. God has been there.
Before adam saw the whole world change
Before Noah and the flood
Before Abraham and Isaac on the mointain
Before Moses and his stutter
Before Joshua met the walls of jericho
Before Joseph was thrown in a pit
Before Daniel was cast in the Lions den
Before David faced the mighty giant goliath
Before the years and years of desolation and wandering in the dessert
and before the path to golgotha

1 Lord, You have been our adwelling place in all generations.

2 Before the mountains were born

Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
