REVELATION - The Throne of God part 4
Encouragement from worship
Last week / Part 3 of the “Throne of God” the four living creatures and the wheels
SLIDE 1 “REVELATION 4-5 IMAGE SLIDE”
The living creatures give glory and honor to Him who sits on the throne, Him who lives forever and forever (chapter 5 verse 10)
The 24 elders- fall down and worship, casting their crowns before Him
Note in chapter 4 verse 4 John just seeing the throne - 24 elders are sitting around the throne - crowns on their heads. verse 10 - falling down to worship and laying their crowns before God
Before starting chapter 5 one more thing about these crowns
Something very interesting in the Book of Philippians -this is chapter 4 kinda final charge from Paul to all of us the church
SLIDE 2
Philippians 4:1 (NASB95)
1 Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
Other translations may say “the joy and crown I receive”
Not sure though if Paul would be counted in the 12 apostles - (Acts 1 / Barsabbas or Matthias)
Casting Lots story with brother James
We may not know for sure but Paul says this right before he moves to the final charge in Phil 4 - this is at the end of Phil 3 and we see here what we will experience in our transformation to heaven
SLIDE 3
Philippians 3:20–21 (NASB95)
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.
On another note as I mentioned last week with the rainbow being full and complete
Things we may not truly know or understand - kind a like the 24 elders
Paul tells us this in Corinthians to kinda relax us and give us peace
SLIDE 4
1 Corinthians 13:9–10 (NASB95)
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
Here in context Paul was addressing trying to truly understand the mysteries involved in spiritual gifts
Keep love the focus in all these things
SLIDE 5
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NASB95)
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
So what are we to do till then according to Paul’s message here -look at the next verse
SLIDE 6
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NASB95)
13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
How would I do these three things?
Back to our scene at the throne in Revelation
What we have seen at the throne so far
SLIDE 7 “THRONE OF GOD” 1ST image
God on His throne - the emeralds - the rainbow around
The 7 lamps with the 7 Seven fold Spirit of God
Under Him like a sea of crystal
The 24 elders around the throne
This is what he sees chap 4 verses 1-4
When John writes in verse 5-11 check this out
SLIDE 8 “THRONE OF GOD” 2ND image
Out came flashes of lighting and sounds of thunder
Still sees the 7 lamps with 7 Spirits of God
Around the sea of crystal the 4 Living Creatures (Ezekiel includes the 4 wheels)
Then the 24 elders bowing in worship putting their crowns forth before God.......when the 4 living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne
This what they are saying - “worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created”
Its clear here that our worlds problems are ecological, not financial, not legal, not social, or cultural, it is spiritual
SLIDE 9
Romans 12:1–2 (NASB95)
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
This last scene we saw here at the throne in Rev was the last verse of chapter 4
Lets take a look what John sees next in chapter 5
SLIDE 10
Revelation 5:1 (NASB95)
1 I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals.
After all that John has seen at the throne of God (in the Spirit).........now he notices a book in God’s right hand
Actually a scroll, no bound books back then
Completely written on front and back / nothing can be added to what the Lord has for final plans about to take place.
SLIDE 11
Revelation 5:2–3 (NASB95)
2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?”
3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it.
Who is worthy to open this book or scroll?
Notice its a strong angel (emphasis he is strong, but is he worthy?)
SLIDE 12
Revelation 5:4–5 (NASB95)
4 Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it;
5 and one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”
note worthy that John was weeping here in verse 4
He wept because #1- he yearned to see creation set free form bondage #2- he wanted to see the promise fulfilled #3- he knew all the OT promises could not be fulfilled unless the scroll were opened (Daniel )
9He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for these words are concealed and sealed up until the end time. 10“Many will be purged, purified and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand.
SLIDE 13
Revelation 5:6 (NASB95)
6 And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.
according to all scripture John had read even old testament he was probably looking for a lion not a lamb
The word slain means to “cut in the throat for sacrifice”
Jesus is called the lamb 28 times in Revelation
I believe the Lord God does not want us to forget the overwhelming sacrifice that was made for us - emphasis
In Genesis Isaac asked Abraham “where is the lamb”?
In the book of John chapter 1 John the Baptist announces “behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”
Now here in Revelation John is writing all taht is being proclaimed at the throne of God “worthy is the Lamb!”
SLIDE 14
Revelation 5:7 (NASB95)
7 And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.
SLIDE 15
Revelation 5:8 (NASB95)
8 When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
SLIDE 16
Revelation 5:9 (NASB95)
9 And they sang a new song, saying,
“Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
SLIDE 17
Revelation 5:10 (NASB95)
10 “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”
What timing the Lord gave us for communion today
