I. Are You Enlightened? vs. 4-6
I. Are You Enlightened? vs. 4-6
A. This passage is not talking ab out losing your salvation. It is talking about someone who is saved, but not mature! Look at the context! (5:11-6:3)
B. These people have been saved. That’s what enlightened and tasted.They have heard the gospel message and tasted that is partakers of the Holy Spirit. Salvation is not temporary. It is a permanent gift. Jesus is not an Indian giver! Eph. 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
C. It does not say that it is impossible to be saved once you’ve fallen. We’ve all sinned and have fallen. This would mean that there is no hope for us! I John 2:1-2
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
D. These believers have refused to mature, so they have been sidelined. They’ve crossed the line where they will never be useful again! It is as if they are humiliating Jesus, like when He was crucified. They’re not laughing at you, but Jesus! Matt. 1:19
And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.
E. This is a shameful set in your ways mentality, because of the damage done to the church. (Weakened or amputated organs/limbs stress other parts ex) “This verse is here for us to judge ourselves”- Jimmy Draper
II. Are You Fruitful? vs. 7-8
II. Are You Fruitful? vs. 7-8
A. There were 250 different thorns with 743 different species in Palastine. You would know which plants to avoid or be careful with. It’s the same with sideways Christians, they produce nothing of what they should, but are finally given to destruction I Cor. 3:12-17
Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work.
If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
B. There are those whose work is extraordinary, then there are those who only do it for show. It will be revealed sooner or later.
C. The question is are you useful and fruitful, or are you useless and fruitless.
