When we need encouragement to endure difficult times while trusting in God’s plan, we can find inspiration in Gen 40–41 and the story of Joseph.
These two chapters illustrate how to endure hardship while maintaining trust, and they demonstrate how faithful perseverance paves the way for God to work His divine plan through our lives. Joseph’s patient endurance leads to blessing—for himself, his family, Egypt, all those caught by famine, and the future nation of Israel. Had he not been imprisoned—wrongly, for standing true to his faith—Joseph may never have risen to prominence in Pharaoh’s court.
God orchestrates our circumstances for His glory and His purpose. But we must be faithful and obedient to see those plans come to completion.
It can be an immense struggle to maintain our patience and continue to walk in faith before others—especially when our hardship stems from others treating us unfairly due to our faith.
Joseph must have wondered whether God would ever deliver him from prison. Although he could interpret dreams, he couldn’t possibly anticipate how God’s plan would unfold. But God often gives us a glimpse of His hand in our lives. Joseph earned favor, both in Potiphar’s house and in prison, due to his loyal service and God’s provision. He was able to interpret the dreams of Pharaoh’s officials because God gave him the interpretations.
No matter his circumstances—and no matter our own—we can see God working in our lives if we have the faith to look. Those glimpses of God’s hand help us remain confident in His goodness and mercy.
After all Joseph has been through - He is now standing in a place of power, anointed by God, placed by God, and protected by God.
Remember:
Nothing can STOP God.
God’s will, will be accomplished.
A RUN DOWN.
A RUN DOWN.
From the Pit to a Slave
From a slave to the overseer
From the overseer to the accused (rape)
From the accused to the prison
From prison to the palace
From the palace to Pharaoh’s best man
Not one person had more control than Joseph did in Egypt besides Pharaoh.
He. Was. The. Man. !!
We may start in the pit - but don’t lose site of the palace.
God has a place, and a purpose for each of us.
Do Not give up your PALACE to wallow in the pit.
in other words -
Do Not GIVE UP on the destiny God has for you just because it’s taking some time.
Today we are picking up with the administration of Jospeh (the next phase in his life)
Read with me:
47 During the seven years of abundance the land produced outstanding harvests. 48 Joseph gathered all the excess food in the land of Egypt during the seven years and put it in the cities. He put the food in every city from the fields around it. 49 So Joseph stored up grain in such abundance—like the sand of the sea—that he stopped measuring it because it was beyond measure. 50 Two sons were born to Joseph before the years of famine arrived. Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest at On, bore them to him. 51 Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh and said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and my whole family.” 52 And the second son he named Ephraim and said, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.” 53 Then the seven years of abundance in the land of Egypt came to an end, 54 and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in every land, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food. 55 When the whole land of Egypt was stricken with famine, the people cried out to Pharaoh for food. Pharaoh told all Egypt, “Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.” 56 Now the famine had spread across the whole region, so Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe in the land of Egypt. 57 Every land came to Joseph in Egypt to buy grain, for the famine was severe in every land.
This is all we can cover today because I want to stress several spiritual truths and not skip over them.
Joseph’s Responsibility
Joseph’s Responsibility
Some think that anointing brings privilege and while that may be true to some point -
God’s anointing on our life more often brings great RESPONSIBILITY.
Faithfulness is Displayed. VS. 47-49
Faithfulness is Displayed. VS. 47-49
There were 7 years of abundance just as God (through Joseph) had promised.
How much was the abundance? More that the sand of the seas.
So much that Joseph stopped counting.
5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act, 6 making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday.
Joseph committed his ways to the Lord. He was patient and trusted God’s timing.
We want instant results, instant blessings, instant gratification, INSTANT.
We see it in jobs, in communities, in relationships, in marriages, in decisions - we don’t want to wait on God and so we rush it - and get ourselves in a mess.
What God has for you is worth the wait.
These years of great abundance can be seen as the blessings of God - God has opened the flood gates of heaven and pouring our more than they can handle.
GOD BLESSES LIKE THAT - SOMETIMES WE’RE TOO BUSY TO NOTICE.
HAS GOD BLESSED YOU? I KNOW HE HAS!
THE SUN is a light twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. All year long,
all decade long, all century long, the sun just keeps on shining. The problem, however, is that the earth gets dark. How can there be all that light and the earth still gets dark? It’s because the earth turns. The earth gets dark because the earth
is spinning on its axis. Therefore the side that faces the sun gets light and the side that is facing away does not.
If there is darkness in your life, it’s not because God, the Father of Lights, is turning; it’s because you are turning. He is the Father of Lights and in Him there is no shadow. There is no darkness in Him. Because God is faithful, He’s consistent. Just like the sun, He is always shining and in His light, there is no shifting or moving shadow. We just have to make sure we are turned toward Him
I KNOW THIS ONE THING - GOD IS FAITHFUL- ABOVE ALL ELESE. I KNOW THIS. HE HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN. GOD IS FAITHFUL. WE CONTINUE TO SEE THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD IN THE LIFE OF JOSEPH AND I PRAY THAT YOU ARE GROWING TO A CLOSER UNDERSTANDING THAT IN ALL THINGS. THE UPS, DOWNS, DETOURS, DELAYS, HEARTACHES, HEARTBREAKS AND ROUGH TOUGH TIMES - GOD IS STILL FAITHFUL.
Through it all God is FAITHFUL.
JOSEPH HAS A FAMILY. VS. 50-52
JOSEPH HAS A FAMILY. VS. 50-52
Joseph was given a wife by Pharaoh
Joseph was given a new name, but he did not forget his heritage.
He names his two sons names with great meaning. (Hebrew Names)
Joseph’s first son is named MANASSEH which sounds like the Hebrew word for “FORGET” “God has made me forget all of my hardships and my whole family”-51
No matter how God chooses to bless you - if we turn our hearts towards God - He will make us FORGET our hardships and struggles.
God will make you FORGET your struggles.
Jospeh’s second son is named: EPHRAIM - the Hebrew word for FRUITFUL. “because God had made him fruitful in the land of his affliction.” -52
Learn the from word:
God’s blessing and anointing is not based on your position, place, or problem.
What God has for you no one can TAKE FROM YOU.
What we are seeing here is the anointing of the life of Joseph.
His family tried to stop it.
slavery tried to stop it
accusations tried to stop it.
prison tried to stop it
being forgotten tried to stop it
BUT YOU CANNOT STOP GOD!
IN YOUR LIFE:
people may talk about you.
hate on you
turn their back on you
lie about you
hope you don’t make it.
try to muster up the crowds against you.
they may discourage you
they may forget about you.
they may do all they can to stop you.
BUT LISTEN TO ME GOOD TODAY.
THEY CANNOT TAKE GOD’S AND OFF OF YOU.
THEY CANNOT TAKE YOUR ANOINTING
THEY CANNOT STOP WHAT GOD IS DOING IN YOU - THROUGH YOU - AND FOR YOU.
GOD IS FAITHFUL TO THE DESTINY HE HAS GIVEN YOU - YOU BE FAITHFUL TO HIM.
DON’T LOOK BACK TO THE PIT WHEN HE PUTS YOU IN THE PALACE.
WHEN GOD PUTS HIS HAND ON YOU - AIN’T NOBODY ABLE TO TAKE IT OFF!!!
DO NOT GIVE UP
YOU MAY BE ONE DAY AWAY FROM YOUR PALACE. ONE DAY AWAY FROM YOUR DESTINY.
FAMINE. VS. 53-57
FAMINE. VS. 53-57
THE FAMINE CAME JUST HAS GOD HAD SPOKEN THROUGH JOSEPH. (7 YEARS)
BUT WITH JOSEPH IN LEADERSHIP - THEY WERE READY. THEY HAD STORED UP MORE THAN THEY WOULD NEED.
AS A RESULT - EGYPT BECAME THE BREADBASKET OF THE WORLD.
GOD’S DIVINE APPOINTMENT FOR JOSEPH HAS NOW COME - AND MANY PEOPLE WILL BE SAVED.
THERE IS NO SMALL ANOINTING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
EVERY BELIEVER HAS A TASK, A MISSION, A GIFT THAT THEY ARE TO DO, SHARE, AND ACT ON.
JOSEPH WAS FAITHFUL EVEN WHEN HE HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS GOING ON - DO YOU HAVE THAT KIND OF FAITH?
JOSEPH HELPED EGYPT PREPARE FOR THE COMING FAMINE - PREPARATION IS NEEDED IN MANY AREAS OF OUR LIVES.
WE PREPARE FOR RETIREMENT, WE PREPARE BY HAVING A BANK ACCOUNT, WE PREPARE BY SCHOOLING. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PREPARATION.
MANY PREPARE FOR EARTHLY THINGS - YET HAVE GIVEN NO THOUGHT IN PREPARATION FOR ETERNAL THINGS.
SOME HAVE PLANNED FOR THE BEST FUTURE ON EARTH, YET DONE NOTHING TO PREPARE THEIR SOUL, WHICH WILL NEVER DIE.
JUST LIKE EGYPT BECAME THE BREADBASKET OF THE WORLD - IN ORDER TO SAVE MANY GEN.50:20
20 You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people.
JESUS SAID - IN JOHN 6:51
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
JESUS IS SPEAKING OF SALVATION. IF YOU COME TO JESUS.
36 For what does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and yet lose his life? 37 What can anyone give in exchange for his life?
THERE IS NOTHING ON EARTH WORTH LOSING YOUR SOUL OVER.
I PRAY TODAY YOU WILL MAKE THE DECISION TO FOLLOW CHRIST, OR IN OBEDIENCE OF BAPTISM. TIME IS GETTING SHORTER AND SHORTER. YOU MUST BE READY.
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
FOR THOSE THAT ARE GOING THROUGH A STRUGGLE RIGHT NOW:::
12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
DO NOT GIVE UP.
Joseph reminds that even when it’s difficult to see God’s hand on our lives - He continues to work out His plan in His time. Be faithful and trust God.
TIME OF PRAYER.
TOGETHER (after prayer)
SAY IT!
I HAVE A PURPOSE
I HAVE A DESTINY
GOD IS FAITHFUL
I WILL BE FAITHFUL
I WILL NOT GIVE UP
