Eternal God

Have you ever thought about feelings or things that didn’t last long?
It kind of starts as a child - the joy that you had when you got a toy, how long did you play with it before you wanted a new one?
Maybe that one hobby you got into but somehow faded away
A new car/maybe new to you car that broke down too soon
Friendships that you thought would last forever ends
Many times things that we think should last dont and sometimes we are surprised by the things that do
What I am getting at is that many things in this world do not last
It is refreshing when we find something that does last
People want to cling things that last
We know that God is everlasting (Turn to gospel John)
What I love about the gospel of John is that it uses sharp contrasts (Light/darkness - love and hatred - above and below - life and death - truth and false)
From the very beginnig of John we see this
John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
The Word here is Jesus
Jesus was in the beginning
Jesus was with God
Jesus is God
God is the author of life and Jesus came a the spiritual life to be the light for all men
Our lives are not eternal but our spirit is
Our spirit was in darkness but where the light is the darkness can’t prevail
Jesus was, and is, and forever will be.
Our spirit will be eternal, extending beyond this life
Jesus has made a way for us to be living with him spiritually for all eternity
And so we are in the word
We pray
And we worship
