Introduction
Transition
What does “Bless the Lord” mean?
Bless the Lord: To speak well of him for his abundant generosity.
God’s grace, received by faith, has radically changed your life!
Through God’s generous grace, the Psalmist gives reason for the believer to demonstrate gratitude to God.
The benefits God has given to you:
God forgives you
God forgives you of your sins.
Confession: Admit and take responsibility of your sin (don’t blame ignorance, or culture, or others.
Repent: Go in a new (righteous) direction.
God heals you
God heals your diseases.
We live in a fallen world.
Adam and Eve infected humanity with a bent toward sin.
And in that nature to sin, it also affected every aspect of your life: physical, emotional, mental—all of creation is affected.
God provides healing—and often that healing is brought about through relationships.
God redeems you
God redeems you from spiritual bondage.
Lost in your sin, there seems no hope.
But through God’s redemptive plan, Jesus (Son of God) took your place in judgment, rescuing you from spiritual enslavement.
The price God paid for your ransom was his Son.
God crowns you
God crowns you with love and mercy.
Fighting the good fight, finishing the race called life, and keeping the faith is not your attempt at earning God’s favor.
fighting, finishing, and keeping all is motivated by our love for God—for who he is and what he has done for us.
Faithfulness, fueled by gratitude, invites the blessings of God.
Ultimate blessing: resurrection!
God satisfies you
He satisfies you with good.
Key to a better life: Draw your satisfaction in your purpose, in your activity, in your hopes fully on God!
You are an image barer of God.
Nothing can adequately fill that image other than God.
Not fame!
Not fortune!
Not people!
Not things!
Conclusion
The benefits, the graces, that God gives you is the only hope that gives you PEACE, JOY, COMFORT, and COURAGE.
He has forgiven you of your sins.
He has healed you of all kinds of diseases.
He has redeemed and rescued you from the pit of destruction.
He has promised that death will not be the end of your story (resurrection).
He has satisfied you with good acts of his grace.
In the experience of God’s grace, gratitude becomes alive.
What else can we do, but give thanks!
