I. Series Recap
I. Series Recap
A. What is the anointing?
Definition(s): the power of God through the Holy Spirit to destroy yokes and remove burdens; God’s ability replacing or swallowing up our inability; God on flesh doing what only God can do
The anointing is task-specific and purpose-driven.
Why is this important? Statistics show that almost SEVENTY PERCENT of voters between the ages of 18 and 26 voted for progressive legislation, including late-term abortion. If we don’t mobilize the anointing to work in this generation, they’re doomed.
B. What is the purpose of the anointing?
As Christians (“little Christs”), we are anointed ones and must know the purpose of the anointing in our lives.
Luke 4:18–19 (ESV)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
C. The anointing must be:
discovered (identified and defined), developed (nurtured and cultivated), and deployed (activated and used).
II. Freedom from Oppression
A. A Christian cannot be possessed by the devil, but can be oppressed by demonic assignment
2575 θραύω (thrauō): vb.; ≡ Str 2352—LN 22.22 oppress, (pass.) be oppressed, be downtrodden (Lk 4:18+)
2872 καταδυναστεύω (katadynasteuō): vb.; ≡ Str 2616—LN 22.22 oppress, dominate (Jas 2:6); (pass.) be under the power of (Ac 10:38+)
B. Freedom from oppression is not exclusively for those who are broken (KJV = those who are bruised)
Don’t allow pride to keep you oppressed.
James 4:6 (ESV)
6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
C. How does oppression happen?
Yielding by choice to demonic influence and failing to renew your mind to the truth of the Word
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Your spirit has been made new; your soul requires work.
Deliverance from oppression is the choice you make to yield to the anointing to break yokes and remove burdens in your life.
Ephesians 6:11–12 (ESV)
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
D. What if i already laid it down?
Don’t pick it back up again.
Like a dog command… “Leave it!”
Deliverance is the catalyst for freedom. It breaks the chains, but you must commit to the disciplined work of recovery and laying down your sin.
III. Manifestations of Oppression
A. Mental - lack of control in your thoughts
Philippians 4:6–8 (ESV)
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
B. Shame - punishing yourself for what has already been forgiven
John 8:34–36 (ESV)
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
C. In your feels
Jeremiah 17:9 (ESV)
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
Proverbs 28:26 (ESV)
26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
1 John 3:20 (ESV)
20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.
Proverbs 12:15 (ESV)
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
Proverbs 29:11 (ESV)
11 A fool gives full vent to his spirit,
but a wise man quietly holds it back.
