Intro

Telling one of the kids to tell the other kids something for us; middle man
Our series is “Oh, Thank God!”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
We can always be thankful that Jesus is our High Priest
A high priest went before God on behalf of the people and the people on behalf of God

A High Priest

Duties:
Enforcement of the Covenant
Oversee the duties of the Temple
Go before the presence of God on the Day of Atonement in the Holy of Holies
Garment:
Special fabrics and colors; gold, blue, pomegranates, bells
Names of the tribes of Israel on the shoulders
Stones and names of the tribes of Israel on the chest
Turban with plate that said “Holy to the LORD”

Day Of Atonement

From Leviticus 16
Once a year
1 bull for a sin offering for the high priest and his family
1 ram for a burnt offering for Israel
2 male goats for a sin offering
Incense was lit in the holy of holies, before the mercy seat
The blood of the bull was sprinkled on the mercy seat with his finger
The blood of the bull and goat was sprinkled on the altar with his finger
1 goat was the scapegoat and sent out into the wilderness
The sin offerings were burned outside the city
This is how Atonement was made
The priest had to make atonement for himself, then cleanse the items of the temple, then make atonement for the people
God would forgive their sins and His presence would come down on the mercy seat

Jesus, Our High Priest

Hebrews 4:14–16 ESV
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Jesus is not in a temple made with hands but in the heavens
Since then, let us
Hold fast our confession
Jesus is victorious over sin yet sympathizes with our weaknesses
Let us then
Draw near to the throne of grace with confidence
So that, we may receive mercy and grace, help in the time of need

So What

Our only hindrance to God is our self
We are not willing to humble our self
We are not willing to repent
We are not willing to lay down the mess of our life
We have Jesus,
for whom and by whom all things were made,
the radiance of the glory of God,
the founder and perfecter of our faith,
the Son of God,
who not only died for our sins that we could be forgiven,
but is also before the presence of the Father on our behalf
God gives us all this so we can know Him and our joy be made complete
