1:17 Jonah had expected to die and he (thought) wanted to die!

God appointed, King James states prepared a great fish! God was not finished with Jonah.

Chapter 2:1 Jonah’s prayer- it is evident that Jonah did not have a pen and paper in the belly of the fish- so he wrote this sometime after the fact.

Verse 2: Sheol was an actual place: the underworld-realm of the dead- Hades

Jonah was not stating that he had died, but rather he “was at deaths door” Jonah lets us know that he cried out to God in his distress and God heard his cry!

Verse 3: Jonah describes his conditions. “YOUR” Jonah acknowledges is situation was GOD’S JUDGEMENT ON HIS SIN. (we need to recognize God’s judgement/discipline in our lives when it occurs)

Verse 4: Banished by God because of his sin of disobedience, the prophet showed repentance and renewed faith, for he expressed confidence in approaching God (I will look again toward Your holy temple). An example to us!

Verse 5&6: Jonah telling us he thought he was going to drown and be buried in a watery grave. BUT GOD REACHED DOWN AND PICKED HIM UP. THE WORD PIT REFEREES TO A GRAVE

Verse 7: Remember the Lord in your time of Judgement/Discipline! God disciplines His children with Love not hate! He desires for you to turn and remember Him! Reach out to Him!

Verse 8: The folly of worthless idols!

Verse 9: But I will sacrifice to the one true living God- recognize Him and vow to Him for His salvation. *Deliverance from perilous situations is a provision from a gracious God.

Verse 10: God, still in control, COMMANDED THE FISH HE PREPARED TO VOMIT JONAH OUT ONTO DRY LAND!

THE 7 MIRACLES THAT WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN IN THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS:

1. GOD CAUSED THE VIOLENT STORM

2.GOD HAD THE LOT FALL ON JONAH

3. GOD CALMED THE SEA WHEN JONAH WAS THROWN INTO THE SEA

4. GOD PREPARED A GREAT FISH TO SWALLOW JONAH

5. GOD HAD THE GREAT FISH TAKE JONAH TO SAFETY AND SPEWED HIM OUT ONTO DRY GROUND

6. AND THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL WAS - MELTING THE HEART OF HIS DISOBEDIENT CHILD TO THE POINT OF REPENTANCE AND THANKSGIVING FOR GODS SALVATION FROM HIS STORM.
