Intro
Last week
We didnt get to stay in the perfect state in which God created everything
Sin entered the world through what?
All of man kind has fallen
Because adam fell so we all did with him
The promise to adam was given to him and his descendants
So also the punishment for breaking this commandment
DONT GET STUCK HERE
Question 17 Into what state did the fall bring mankind?
Answer The fall brought mankind into a state of sin and misery.
The Fall brought death
A darkness hovered over man from the time of the fall
A chasm was opened between God and man due to their sin
This seperation from God is the thing that leaves all men searching to fill “what’s missing”
This sense of something missing this misery and dispare comes from the sinfulness into which man fell
Question 18 What is the sinfulness of that state into which man fell?
Answer The sinfulness of the state into which man fell includes the guilt of Adam’s first sin, the lack of righteousness which he had before the Fall, and the corruption of every part of his nature, which is commonly called Original sin; together with all the actual sins which flow from it.
4 parts
Adams sin
Our lack of righteousness
The sin infection we have in every part of our nature
And our actual sin
Anne Frank said
“in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.”
On our own apart from God we can do no good thing
Can we do nice things sure
But we can do nothing that is pleasing to God
Because without him our nature is opposed to him
Disobedient to him
Sin is a disease that infects us completely
TOTAL DEPRAVITY
So thats sin so what about the misery?
Question 19 What is the misery of mankind’s fallen condition?
Answer All mankind, by their fall, lost fellowship with God and are under his wrath and curse.
Therefore, they are subject to all the miseries in this life, to death itself, and to the pains of hell forever.
The misery of our condition is just this
This life
Have you lived here long
have you experienced terrible things happen
Man apart from God is lost without hope
Toiling in our state of sinfulness
The idea of a lost fellowship with God
So strong
What is our chief end
To Glorify God and Enjoy him
How can we enjoy him if we dont know him
If we have lost fellowship with him
If we hide ourselves from him
The worst place to be
Dead in our trespasses
HOPELESS STATE
Thank God he didnt leave us there
Question 20 Did God leave all of mankind in their state of misery and sin to perish?
Answer In God’s eternal purpose and because it pleased Him, He chose some to everlasting life.
These He freed from sin and misery, through a covenant of grace, and brought them salvation through a Redeemer.
God had planned before the foundations of the earth to rescue us from our fallen state
God in his providence saved us from this state of sin and misery
Our seperation from God
Our broken fellowship with him
Our lost state in which we try to hide ourselves from God
Can be fixed
and the only one who can fix it is God himself
BUT GOD
God fixed our broken state a brought us into salvation
Sure we live in a terrible state totally depraved with no way of saving ourselves lost, BUT GOD has a plan to fix that we will be able to glorify him and enjoy him forever because he made a way for us to do this
You no longer need to hide yourself because he has chosen us out of this life of sin and misery to an eternity in fellowship with him
