Vessels of Honor
Vessels of Honor
19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
1. We have to have a solid foundation
2 Aspects of foundation:
The structure in which something is build upon
And a form of knowledge that someone has
Foundation:
What is your life being built on?
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
You can think of it as Foundation or Cornerstone:
Cornerstones, or foundation stones, are an ancient building technique. A building’s cornerstone in ancient times was a perfectly squared stone set in the corner of the new building which was plumbed, squared and leveled by the builder.
Without a perfect starting point, it was recognized that the quality of the building would suffer through its construction and lifespan.
A house built on the wrong material is unstable
Remodeling The Bathroom
Everything is out of square
You’ll then try and force things to fit
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
“The foundation of God stands, having this seal: The Lord knows who are his.
2. God Puts His Seal on Us
Much like a painter signs his name on a his work
Builders would put their seal on their buildings or cornerstones
God puts his seal on you
Does your life reflect God’s handiwork?
Who’s responsible for your design?
are you a product of your environment
are you a product of how you were raised
are you a product of the world
OR are you a product of the most high God
A child of God’s
A royal priesthood
Kings and Priests
Product of a transformed mind
Do you look, act, withstand and hold up to the Seal
Our trademarks or seals should look like:
-The great commandment- Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind.
-The great commission- Go and make disciples of all nations
Is That what your life looks like?
19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart form iniquity
3. We have to depart from iniquity
Let our lives be ones that differ from the world
We depart from iniquity
Do you name the name of Christ?
Wearing a Jersey in High School
Don’t get in trouble when you’re wearing a Jersey
When we give our lives to God we no longer possess ourselves
We are his and belong to his team
It’s the winning team
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
4. We’re Vessels of Honor
What is your vessel being used for?
Honor or dishonor
Sanctified- set apart
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Our lives look different
We’re not just occupying a different spaces than the world
Sanctified and useful
This part of the process involves our cooperation
How do we know if we’re being useful?
What fruit is being produced in your life
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
5. Flee Youthful lust
We can’t continue in habitual sin
Can’t be caught up in the same things we’re always caught up
Today is the day to change
Youthful lust:
-Impatience
-Selfishness
-Love of novelty
-Self assertion
-lust of the eyes
-Covetousness
-Seeking the approval of men
The list goes
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
PUT THEM AWAY!
Keys
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
6. We have to be Teachable
He’s talking to Leadership here
Don’t go around correcting everyone if you first aren’t teachable
Woe to you if you think you know everything
The way devil wants to set snares
Snares of Pride
Woe to you if you’re not teachable
What is your foundation built upon?
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
