(2 Timothy 4:1-2)
Introduction:
1. Story: My grand-father’s battle with cancer.
2. Why do we have preaching during worship? (Matthew 28:18-20)
3. It’s because an ex-cancer patient needs to be checked on just as much as
the cancer patient.
4. Weather it is in the assembly our out in the world we need to have the
correct approach if we are going to cure the cancer of sin.
Body:
I. We must preach the word to convince. (reprove)
A. We have a duty to convince. (2 Timothy 2:24-26; Romans 3:23)
B. We need to accept that some will not be convinced. (2 Timothy 4:3, 4; Mark 4:3-8)
C. Illustration: Some patients have a period of denial about their diagnosis and must be convinced of its reality.
II. We must preach the word to correct. (rebuke)
A. We have a duty to preach against wrong. (2 Timothy 2:24-26; Romans 1:16)
B. We must not be ashamed or afraid to rebuke. (Matthew 23:13-15)
C. Illustration: They must be told the process of how to begin fixing it. i.e. chemo therapy.
III. We must preach the word to comfort. (exhort)
A. We have a duty to set people free. (2 Timothy 2:24-26; Romans 6:23)
B. We are given a great promise to share. (2 Timothy 4:8; John 14:1-3)
C. Illustration: they but be comforted with the knowledge of the reward for all the hard work.
Conclusion:
1. We are surrounded by Christian cancers. (2 Timothy 2:17)
2. Cancers of the heart and the mind are spreading.
3. We must convince, rebuke, and exhort to cure that cancer.
