A.C.T.S - Confession
So I throw up my hands/ And praise you again and again / Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
And I know it’s not much / But I’ve nothing else fit for a King/ Except for a heart singing hallelujah
A repentant heart is a grateful heart.
Introduction: Confession in prayer means “Telling God who you are”. (5%)
· Confession can be difficult for a variety of reasons.
1. Pride
2. Self-Destruction
3. We don’t know how to confess.
· David understood confession.
Read Psalm 51

1. Confession requires honesty.

Davids Background
David plead for God’s mercy in keeping with His promise.
· “wash me” – filthy clothes that need laundry
David knew that God’s forgiveness was available.
· Knew his was against God.
· God wanted truth in his innermost being.
David was willing to give it to Him.
God can handle your truth, mess, etc.
We must be up front with God.

2. Confession is God’s requirement.

“Create” – same verb used in Genesis 1:1 for the creation of the world. David
knew that the only way that change could happen was direct intervention from God.
“Holy Spirit” – David understood that his spiritual well-being depended on God’s presence with him. He was afraid that the spirit was going to be taken away.
God is generous and willing to forgive but we must learn to be people of repentance to experience true life change.
The perils of a double minded life. David was forced to learn that he would never be allowed to live this way if he wanted to honor God.
Going to church but living without repentance is useless.
You can’t be new until your broken and humbled.

3. Confession puts you in the right place.

David wanted to come home.
· The restoration of the king lead to blessings for the people.
The activities in church make better sense when you live a life of confession.
Coming down from the mountain top experience and falling away.
We don’t always have to put up a fight.
What do you need to confess to God this morning?
