God is Good: Joseph, Moses, Pharoah
God is Good: Joseph, Moses, Pharoah
15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him. 16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying, 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them. 22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
Was it Good or bad...
That Joseph dreamed a dream from God that showed his prosperity?
That Joseph’s brothers learned of this dream and became jealous?
That Joseph’s brothers devised a plan to sell him into slavery and fake his death to their father?
That Joseph even in his bonds rose to prominence in Potiphar’s house?
That Potiphar’s wife sought to seduce Joseph and when it failed, she falsely accused him?
That in jail, Joseph remained faithful and rose to prominence even in prison?
That after helping Pharoah’s cup bearer in prison, the cup bearer failed to remember Joseph and left in him prison for 2 more years?
The Actions of Joseph’s Brothers were:
Rooted in jealousy - Is that good or bad?
Rooted in Hatred - Is that good or bad?
Evil - Is that good or bad?
Malicious - Is that good or bad?
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
Joseph Wept…Why?
What Joseph had taken a lifetime to learn & understand, his family doesn’t get.
1 I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, And hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. 3 O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, And give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. 5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
3 But our God is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
Joseph in all of his trials remembered that first dream & promise from God
8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. 9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
6 And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
All they did…though seemingly bad, God used it for good!
